      Because it was a viable person at that point, independently existing in the world and outside this woman’s womb. It hadn’t been aborted by any legal definition or with necessary legal authority and they had a duty of care.

    • Public funding is available for abortion only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest.

    This woman, for whatever reason, thought that her best option was to stick a coat hanger into her vagina and hope it caused a miscarriage. This is why we need good sex ed in high schools. This is why we need to fund Planned Parenthood. This is why abortions should be state supported.

    Because this is a terrible nightmare situation and should never happen.

    This is what happens when states are allowed to legislate every step of a completely legal procedure. Abortion is legal? Okay! Let’s shut down every clinic that provides safe abortions, and those who aren’t shut down let’s stand outside and threaten the workers and the patients, and even sometimes kill those workers and patients, and also let’s force penetrative ultrasounds because women don’t really know what is right for them, and let’s also not cover contraception, and let’s de-fund Planned Parenthood, and let’s do this and not do that so that BABIEZZZZ WILL NOT DIE!!! And so desperate women resort to desperate measures. And they are turned into murderers. And there are fetuses who are never wanted that will never survive. There is no war on women. No way.

    This is horrible, but it is past the point where abortions are legal in most (or all?) states. I don’t think she should be charged with attempted first degree murder at all, but I guess this doesn’t surprise me that much?

    Maybe I’m jaded, but I think this is more of a gray area than many of the cases where you see women charged with crimes after attempted or actual abortions. She shouldn’t have had to get to this point, though. She should have had other, earlier options.

      It’s terrifying. We all need to support organizations providing access to abortion services.

      In the shittier parts of Europe, there’s an actual boat that goes around delivering medical abortion (RU-486/Mifepristone) pills to women who need them. Maybe it’s time for civilized Americans to start an army of drones to deliver abortion medications to women in the lest civilized states.

    Oh the Ohio folks were already worked up in a good ol’ lather because PP (or Satan HQ as they call it) was dumping “poor ripped up babies in landfills”. Of course, they are getting this information from Mike DeWine who is a longtime forced birther and pretty proud of it.

    A firend of a friend’s comments on the article related to the dumping said “can you imagine going to the landfill and finding these tiny, naked babies, ripped and bleeding, writhing around in little piles?”

    What? I don’t think they even have a clue of what they are talking about anymore,.
