    That valley news, hoo boy... I got roots down there and know plenty of wonderful people from that area, but goddamn, the fear-mongering they had in their local news that we didn’t in the Bay was very conspicuous to me from a young age. Back in the day they literally had the straight-up “Do you know where your children are?” with the empty-swing promos at night.

    I knew where my parents’ children were- the greater Fresno area, and they weren’t too thrilled about it!

      Why shouldn’t we take him seriously? He’s a mirror of very real and very dangerous sentiments in this country. No, I don’t think we’re going to ban Muslims from the U.S. That’s completely unreasonable.

      But in comparison, the idea of simply having a database of Muslims seem like a moderate and commonsense proposal?

    I’ve reached a point where I’m entering a state of incandescent rage about Trump and his supporters. It’s not funny anymore. It’s the fascist side of America rearing its ugly head in the biggest and most visible way in decades. Since I’ve been born.

    I was born in 1987. Since that point, no one has ever come close to this level of popular fascism. I wasn’t around for McCarty, the Red Scare, HUAC, or anything like that, so to see a figure rising that echoes those awful days is just becoming increasingly horrifying.

    I know things won’t get that bad. But I am incredibly depressed at the visible reminder of how much of this country wants to return to the bad old days of popularized bigotry, fear, and hatred.

    God damn it, I miss George Bush, because he said “This isn’t about Islam” within a week after 9/11 and generally people fell in line. There were awful outbursts against Muslims and we rounded up lots of people, but the proposals were never as extreme as this. The civil rights violations were minor-scale, not this proposed major destruction of religious freedom.

    It stopped being funny today. Instead I’m just sickened by it.

      If it makes you feel better, every country has a fascist side. The US is no different, despite our loud and hypocritical advertising of being a humane and moral nation. There are always portions of the population everywhere that like these beliefs; nothing you can do about changing their minds except make sure that they don’t come to power.

      The editorial page of our small town paper regularly features (every 2-3 weeks) letters from a local Holocaust denier. It used to also feature a religious fanatic’s ravings, but he’s currently in prison for having threatened to shoot up a PP.

      The Red Raider football boosters are holding a fundraiser at the Friendly’s on 120 Main from 1-5 on Thursday night. Bring your appetite, because once you’ve had your fill of BBQ Chicken Super Melts™, your hunger will be as valid and probable as those “claims” about all those “death camps”(I’ve never see any around town, HAVE YOU??? I mean, if there were so many of them, wouldn’t you see at least ONE around the tri-city area??) they supposedly had in Germany and Poland during the World War II.
