    Of course it sounds absurdly barbaric when you say it like that, but that’s how it is already done, make no mistake;

    For the death of a man whom practically no American can name, the US killed 128 people, 13 of them children, none of whom it meant to harm.

      I don’t think that’s really a fair position. Do drone strikes kill innocent people? Yes. But they also kill a lot less people than carpet bombing, outright occupation, and all out war. The Western World, and the United States in particular are going to pursue terrorists in the Middle East, and when you engage in warfare, innocent people die. You can never eliminate collateral losses, you can only mitigate. And the uncomfortable reality is that drone strikes are probably the best way to kill high ranking terrorists even considering the collateral deaths involved.

      The United States, vis-a-vis its foreign policy, surely does not have clean hands—but to say that that policy constitutes wanton murder is disingenuous and hyperbolic, in my opinion.

    I read on another thread here at Gawker that the USSR had some hostages taken by terrorists from the ME. They found the terrorist’s families and started sending them their body parts. The hostages were promptly released.

    I’ve always thought that we should threaten to bomb Mecca if they killed another person.

      What? Sacrilege; Mecca is in Saudi Arabia, our “friend” and “ally” in the “war on terror”.

    “Politically correct war” = “war where we don’t purposefully slaughter civilians and dole out collective punishment to noncombatants”?

    Trump makes William T. Sherman look like Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

      Probably a war where the principle of bellum iustum applies (the Romans always needed an excuse for a “just” war too, a technicality which at some times required some creative brainstorming sessions in the Senate - see the 3rd Punic War as an example).

    Well, nothing resonates with Republicans quite like promises to kill tons of people who don’t look like you.

    Surely if we can just kill enough people, all this will go away...

      SIDEBAR: I always thought that every episode of Star Trek should have ended with Kirk saying “Gotta go!” and beaming off the planet (of the week) just before it explodes.

    “I would hit them so hard like they’ve never been hit before.”

    What is this, a fucking video game? Is he so proud of himself that he won’t share the details of his master plan? It’s not like these “stupid leaders” would be able to steal his so-called brilliant idea and make it work anyway.

      He doesn’t have a plan. I don’t think he has a plan for anything. He speaks in broad generalities about everything. Literally people like him because he talks tough, not because of policy.

    Tony Benn drew on his own experience during WWII to denounce bombing. Makes a good point.

      It was the first Gulf War back in the 90s. It’s a shame that Tony Benn’s son Hilary Benn is one of the biggest proponents of the U.K. Getting involved in Syria.

      Old Uncle Don just saying common sense things that any world leader would say.

      You know, like purposefully killing civilians because of suspected ties to terrorism, regardless of evidence. I’m sure that he wouldn’t use that same line of thinking on American citizens. Because being the completely hinged individual who thinks through the consequences of his thoughts and actions, everything would turn out the way he intends them to.
