I liked that little detail of Haymitch and Effie.

I enjoyed it even through I was crying.

As I’m not American I didn’t feel bound to having Thanksgiving dinner, so I made Thanksgiving-y lunch. Roasted turkey thighs, potato salad, store-bought stuffing (first time trying, did not like) and corn on the cob for the girls. Brownies and ice cream for dessert. *BURP*

That is a fine looking potato salad! Stuffing (even the homemade variety) is weird and overrated. I’m American and still do not understand the appeal of stuffing.

I thought stuffing would be similar to a Brazilian dish I love but no, it turned out to be soggy greasy breadcrumbs. Disappointing. But the potato salad (my mom’s recipe, called her to learn how to make it) made up for it :-)

WHERE ARE THE PICS, PEOPLE?!? I’m from Canuckistan, where we celebrated Thanksgiving 6 weeks ago, but this year my family didn’t celebrate due to 2 people having cancer and being pretty pooped from chemo.

So I had Thanksgiving with my bf’s family, where his British dad murdered all the food....the vegetables tasted like fart and he cooked roast beef (I know) until it was grey.

I'm still pretty pissed about it and NEED some pictures people. Help a lady out!

But Slate says to not share photos of our Thanksgiving dinner!
Also, I have this great gif-set and this is the only day I can use them, so here:

I’m alone by choice tonight, but I really wanted to make cranberry-orange relish, and then I figured I might as well cook a turkey breast (which I burned instead of browning, alas), so here we are. Definitely should have made a vegetable for respectability.

I’m thankful for a lot, but tonight, thankful for relish and beer.

I didn’t take pictures of anything because I was busy cooking and also drinking. BUT. I made a walnut-crusted custard tart flavored with orange blossom and manuka honey, w/ fresh whipped cream and blackberries and mint and it was glorious.

AND ALSO. If you see things in the produce section called like “Sweet Dumpling squash” which look like small green and white stripey pumpkins, GET THEM. They’re really good, and if you cut them in half and bake them, they’re excellent for stuffing your sweet potato casserole (brandy, grated ginger, sour cream, butter, brown sugar) into.

Oh, man. I’m celebrating Saturday (kids are with the ex tonight) and I am getting so much inspiration from reading about what everyone made tonight. Was planning on making blackberry crisp but now I’m gonna add some orange and honey cause that sounds amazing. I’m going to use dried cranberries in a bunch of stuff and now, based on another post, I’m going to soak them in bourbon first. Jezebel is so USEFUL.
