      I’d hope women could also intervene, and hopefully embarrass him. Not to make it all about my gender, but it’s everyone’s responsibility to call out shitheads like this. And you probably shouldn’t punch a gov’t employee, although hate crimes are a great reason to punch someone. If I see someone hatecriming, I resolve to at least tell them to shut the hell up.

      I’m sorry if that came off as sexist. Yes, please, anyone help out a fellow human in need. As someone who’s 6’/200 lbs.     Aside from my Bob Marley blacklight poster and that time I wore dreds in college, I really know next to nothing about Jamaican culture. I especially know little about Jamaican-American culture (also I am assuming the assailant here is Jamaican).

    Does there tend to be a good deal of bigotry in that culture against other ethnic types, or is this guy just a crazy outlier?

      From what I understand, there is a huge amount of homophobia in Jamaica, so it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch to assume that other forms of intolerance would manifest as well.

      I used to work at the Post Office. Crazy doesn’t even begin to describe some of the people I worked with. One co-worker came at me while I was sitting in my car at lunch, calling me out for making fun of him in the office in the morning (other people made fun of him as well but I was the only one who was held accountable, I guess). I flipped him the bird and drove off and he jumps in his car, tears down a side street and pulls up in front of me cursing at me like a lunatic in this nice jewish suburban neighborhood. I just nodded at him and drove around him.

      I wish I could find the picture of the other guy’s car I worked with that had all these “one man, one woman” anti-gay bumper stickers on it. Some brave soul carved “bigot” onto his trunk lid.
