Witnesses on the scene report being maced by cops in riot gear immediately following the shooting. Other witnesses report at least one cop said “this is what you asked for” or something similar after the shooting. Still more reported that cops ignored eye witness attempts to report what they saw. This is scary stuff.

While I agree that the shooting is terrible, I admit I’m a little skeptical about reports of macing or those kinds of comments. It’s just a little too convenient and easily villainous; I mean, really, a cop is going to pause while setting up an active perimeter, possibly directing EMTs and emergency services, to make such a mustache-twirling comment to folks he *knows* are actively paying attention to and protesting his behavior and are also active on social media? And he somehow knows immediately that the shooters targeted the protesters and no one else? It stretches credibility a little bit. Still possible, but I’d like some kind of footage or corroboration from media.

I live in Minneapolis. I know people who have been at the precinct all week. These accounts come from protesters who have consistently supplied reliable information from the precinct and live tweeted it as it was happening. The only reason I am not there myself is because I can’t be close to police without my PTSD being triggered.

When are white people going to address their culture of violence?

These hoodlums should be worried about white-on-white crime.

RT gives more of a fuck about black people in the US than any of the “regular” news.

Seeing as there is probably some type of footage of the area in question — it should be fairly easy to either refute or support the response time.

This is one of those relative things when it comes to witness accounts because there are instances when time passed FEELS like an eternity, then you look up and in reality only five minutes have passed. So unless someone was actively monitoring their watch or phone, I tend to give the benefit of the doubt on that 15/20 minutes claim.

That notwithstanding though, it’s a fucked up situation all around.

True, yet if some were already at the scene (wasn’t it right outside a station as well?), it likely probably shouldn’t have even taken five.

Local here. About a week ago, there was another incident during the protest in which several men showed up with guns, and posted multiple political rants online. I think security at the protest after that incident was tightened, which is probably why these men were fingered for being suspicious.

I am neutral on the actual case of Clark while the official investigation is going on, but the protests at the precinct have been peaceful and well within legal parameters. There is no reason, absolutely no reason, to disturb or object to these protests beyond being horrible, racist asses. There is no justification for this kind of behavior, and I hope the shooters are caught soon.

What the hell is a “dindu?” I looked it up and it still does not make any sense. Also, the driver has half of his face uncovered and with a nose like that? Yeah, he is not exactly masking himself.

It’s a 100% racist term always spouted by racists anytime there is black crime.

Dindu stems from “he dindu nuffin (didn’t do nothing)” coming from the mother of an alleged criminal denying that their son could commit a crime. It happens sometimes, sure, but it’s become memefied into a racist response anytime anything happens. I feel dirty typing that, but at least you know what it is now and can call out the assholes who use it.

I mean, where is the update on how the gun is doing? Typical liberal media, forgetting the most vulnerable among us; dangerous, inanimate objects.

Minneapolis and St Paul are actually quite diverse. The rest of the state may be 98% white, but there are a hell of a lot more than 10 black people in the twin cities.

MinnesotaPublicRadio has a pretty good article out on what we know so far. Highlights:

-Sounds like the shooting occurred about a block up from the protest/precinct. Several protesters were escorting the suspicious men (likely white supremacists who had shown up on other nights) away when they opened fire. Might explain why there was a weird time lag of response, if the cops on duty were down the street and not immediately aware of the shootings.
-Brother of Jamar Clark is requesting that the protest end out of concern for protesters’ safety. The media has previously reported there’s been some disagreement between Clark’s family and the protests about goals and how to proceed.

Thank you for posting. I work in NE Minneapolis and live in St. Paul. I know the barely-contained white animosity toward POC (of which I am one) is very, very close to boiling over at any second.

Perhaps you misunderstood what I said. I said we need to keep saying this is not what Americans do. We need to keep saying it’s unAmerican. That’s the narrative we need to push here.
