I guess if you have to put rape on a spectrum, this one is up there (if true) because she is as at their mercy as a child is to an adult and/or someone who has been kidnapped. It’s difficult enough to come forward about sex crimes, but this woman knows retribution is real and LIKELY. She is also aware that she is an inmate and they are CO’s and their word will carry the day, unless somehow, someway, they can either connect with the jury or get a confession or something.

Dirty cops and CO’s make me want to puke and they need unmitigated sentencing, or if mitigated, mitigated UP. (I know that's not the correct term, but hopefully someone will educate me with the correct terminology.)

Dirty co’s should be thrown into the general population of the jails they work at.

Sort of like how the romans would make an architect stand under a bridge they just built when they first release the supports.

You think most of the guards would go and get retribution against a women that got raped? That’s pretty fucked up, and says more about you than your tainted feminist ideology.

Welp. I guess these disgusting troll-ass comments are the kind you guys WANT now. You sure as hell aren’t doing anything to get rid of em. But I guess the alternative to being an “echo chamber” is giving people a platform to say the most horrible shit they can think of, so I hope your boss is happy.

Feels like I say it on every Gawker story on corrections officers: They are complete animals and get to be that way because Americans believe anyone convicted of any crime deserves whatever happens to them.

Disgustingly true. Even the worst scum of society deserve our protection if we’re going to hold them in our care (not even getting into the fact that most people in US prisons don’t belong there).

I think the surprising thing is that someone filed a complaint. I doubt this is all that unusual, particularly at Riker’s.

They don’t seem to care too much about complaints. We only hear about these things when someone is brave enough to file a lawsuit. I hope this woman is out of the system or at least being protected.

3 million prisoners. It’s thought that at least 5% are assaulted per year, more than 4x the civilian rate.

But they’re prisoners, so nobody seems to care. Hell, we love to make jokes about it.

Lots of people believe that COs are just as bad as the criminals they watch. Maybe this is a job that should done for a very short period of time. Like five years max. I went into a psych hospital once because needed a tow and my cell was dead. I knew this place because it wasn’t too far from my house, but it was strange and the night guard was as strange as the people he was watching. I think we have the tendency to fit in with our environments, and that is a very bad thing when it comes to certian jobs.

Really wouldn’t wish this on anyone, even the vile shitbags who did it. Definitely hope they end up in prison forever but not raped.

Beaten with wet sacks of rocks in the showers though...maybe.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, men should not be allowed within 5km of women’s correctional facilities unless they are well-supervised visitors.

Or at least require that female prisoners are never left unattended with an all male staff.

This. Is horrifying. How does one rationalize such behavior?

“You know what’ll win the respect of my peers? Raping an inmate, that’s what!”

“Gonna watch a rape, eat lunch, file some reports.”

Was this behavior that fucking normal to these guys? Ugh.
