The scary thing right now, is given the insane climate of reactionary fear after the Paris Attacks, that if ISIS could pull off even a small attack in the United States in the upcoming days it would plunge us into full on irrational madness. It could even possibly cause someone like Trump to get elected.

I got an alert that some Middle Eastern men have been stopped at the Arizona border. If they turn out to be affiliated with ISIS that wall thing is going to be more appealing than ever.

It is frightening how easily people lose all perspective. The keep calm and carry on mode of behavior seems to not have many adherents here in the states. It’s always more like lose your ever loving shit and act like a panicked monkey.

Were they the 8 Syrian refugees in Texas? Because while Breitbart is screaming about how “they’re testing our defenses!!!” it turns out that they walked up to the point of entry and turned themselves in, asking for asylum.

“You want to be free and dead? I’d rather be not free and alive.”

Sam Adams sez, “Go fuck yourself.”

“If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

Samuel Adams was nearly as counter-productive as he was productive, but boy, he knew how to agitate.

I see your Sam Adams quote, and raise you another:

“No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.”

I think we should make that our new national motto.

After Paris, I’m not scared, I’m just mad. Is that what other people are feeling and why there seems to be this rush to punish any and all Muslims? None of the reaction seems to be about preventing another attack, it seems deliberately intended as punishment which is not only unAmerican but it just seems really ineffective.

      Yes.

Beginning to hate myself for sounding like a broken record, but all the panic mongers in the US are harping about Syrian refugees apparently oblivious to the fact the confirmed terrorists are Belgium and French.

Way to worry about the wrong thing.

This is certainly true for a decent part of American history, but with the state of the justice/prison system wanton punishment sounds quite American these days.

“I’d rather be not free and alive”

And that is exactly what is wrong with the cowards in this country. So god damn afraid they are willing to throw everything that makes us Americans right out the window. That particular point of view is far more dangerous to the USA than daesh’s nihilism. We have nothing to fear but fear itself. What a sad joke...

I guess “Give me liberty, or give me death” is just an obsolete slogan these days. “Give me safety and I’ll do whatever you want. Just don’t hurt me.” is the new battle hymn of the Republic.

And the more money you have the less likely any restrictions on civil liberties would actually affect you. So it’s easy to talk the talk when there is little chance you will suffer the consequences of that which you propose.

The inference that Haim Saban is solely a Hillary Clinton issue is ridiculous. He’s been a pocket jumper in the democratic sphere for years, and has always been staunchly pro- Israel which is usually anti- Islam if generally more diplomatically phrased. http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico…

Irrelevant. This is Bernie’s first presidential campaign. He didn’t support obamas first campaign either yet supported his second, as he had More assurances that a victory would be the likely outcome.

Democracies will go fascist when the population are frightened economically or physically, if they do not value and fight for their freedom. Strangely, democracies rarely go socialist/communist under the same circumstances (see better dead than red).

Bullshit. That is exactly how those societies come about. Look at Bernie Sander’s campaign.

Really! Russia and China went from monarchies to communism, they were never democracies. Any democracy that moves to socialism rarely gives up civil rights to do so (UK, Scandinavia, Canada). Your serve.
