Why exactly is this a bad thing? In light of the recent tragic events, I think a more rigorous screening process is long overdue.

Then you know absolutely nothing about the screening process that’s already in place, and you’re part of the fucking problem.

If I were an refugee, I wouldn’t even want to come to the United States at this point. We have beautifully disgraced ourselves once again.

This is one of the biggest new recruiting tools being used by organizations like ISIS.

CALL YOUR SENATORS!!! Right now that’s a veto-proof majority, meaning this could easily become law. The only way to stop this is to ensure that enough Senators vote against it (or filibuster it, hopefully).

I called the one (Bennet) who might vote against it. Gardner’s a tea party shit bag, so his vote’s a foregone conclusion.

He’s only the Director of the FBI, he can’t possibly have anything better to do than to scrutinize each individual refugee applicant, one at a time.

NO! That’s treasonous. You’re born into a well-regulated militia called AMERICA and no one can take that or your guns away from you.

One or two more attacks, especially if they involve any sort of Syrian migrants, and the Senate itself might also muster a veto proof majority.

    Fuck.

And yet ... and yet ... nobody realizes that Syrian migrants in the US are so vetted that it’s ridiculous ... nobody realizes that even in Europe where they don’t have time to properly vet right now terrorist acts are organized by people who have been there long enough to know how to plan such things and therefore not part of the massive migration in the past year?

Seriously - this is exactly what all these assholes wanted. A reason to keep foreigners out. Because the people saying this today were not exactly thrilled at receiving refugees yesterday.

Thanks, DAESH, for making the world even more terrible for the people you’re supposedly fighting for.

Compared to its size and other nations of similar wealth, the US has actually only taken in very few refugees for many decades now. Just as an example, we’ve taken in about three million refugees over the last 20 years here in Germany, while the US has taken in about half that number. Adjusted per capita, that’s a difference of eight to one.

It isn’t some recent development that the US is unfriendly to refugees and only allows small contingents from the war zones of the world each year, this has been the policy of both parties for a long time, going back at least as far as the 1930ies, when they turned away Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and actively derailed the Evian conference, giving other countries an excuse to do the same. There’d probably a few million Jews more alive today if the US had been more welcoming to refugees back in those days.

Turning away refugees has grave consequences. It did for Jews back then and it does for people from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other American foreign policy fuck ups today.

Either you pass the buck down to someone else to take care of them (which is what countries like Germany, Turkey and Lebanon have been forced to do by America’s inaction), or they’ll just die because no one takes them in.

Personally I think that anyone who turns away refugees should just go ahead and pick up a rifle to shoot them in the head, because by their actions, they are condemning these people to death anyway. They’re just leaving the job to the Islamic State. I can think of few acts more cowardly than not even having the guts to do it themselves.

This is so fucking stupid. There’s no goddamn reason to do this but to score political points off of something pointless and tedious.

Meanwhile Buljušmić-Kustura Arnesa posted about the entire refugee relocation process, which takes up to 2 years. Looks like there’s no need for some bullshit like ‘signatures from the FBI director’:
