      Idk why but I find it so hysterical that some of their go-to answers are “homie” and “ghetto” and “hood”. They use it almost as much as “Uma”.

    They’ve also had some problematically racial cluing for the word “thug,” which Rex has addressed as well. (Which I just noticed was addressed in the article... Good reading skills! But it’s actually been used more than once in the past couple months, with equally bad cluing.) I read Rex’s blog a couple times a week. I didn’t think about how some people would view a crossword puzzle blog. I never thought there was anything weird about it. But then, I am white.

      Bless you. I wish I was good at crosswords, but I only ever do them when I am 1) on a plane, or 2) stuck at staff retreat, so my opportunities to practice are somewhat limited. How did you get into crosswords?

      My dad was a crossword fiend, so I just sort of got into the habit. I didn’t do them for a long time, but when I found the NY Times Crossword app, I started doing them again. I ride the train to work most days, so it’s a way to kill 5-30 minutes depending on the day of the week. Plus, I just like grids,I guess, because my other favorite puzzle app is Sudoku.

      This is why I miss my old roommate. She was a doing her MA in Religion on lynching as religious ritual in the South, and so many days involved us drinking bourbon on the kitchen floor, just saying “Fucking white people!” “Fucking patriarchy!”
