This video is incredibly Australian. 90% of the Australians I've met traveling have insisted that racism is "not as big of a deal" in Australia. And yet somehow they almost always end up saying something glibly racist shortly thereafter. It's like a collective cultural delusion.

As John Oliver said, they are “the most comfortably racist country in the world.” Maybe not the absolutely most racist, but by far the most at ease with their own racism.

Pretty sure it was on The Bugle, so no idea how to link to it.

He should fire the Apple spokeslady in Australia who initially said she would not comment. She should be the first to go.

Where is that? I clicked every link on this page.
Also, if you worked in PR, and you’re just sitting there having your lunch like a regular Friday, and some reporter calls you and asks for a statement about your employee who shot a cop on tape, what do YOU answer?

It was in yesterday’s first reporting of the story. You say: While I don’t have all the information, if what you are reporting is true, that goes against everything Apple stands for. We will have a complete statement once we review the video. And not.. “no comment” or actually, her quote was “we will not be commenting on this”.. gosh.

Might like to see what led to this. It can’t be “there is NEVER a reason to kick people out of your store.” Often Electronic stores (Best buy) require you to leave your backpack at the door . Did they refuse to comply?

In some countries they’d say that is still two too many thumbs up signs.

You know, for once I would like to see this sort of incident followed by corporate involvement beyond the wishy-washy doubletalk and have someone like Tim Cook says “I won’t bloody have it” followed by firings.

We get a LOT of Australians here in Thailand.

Full spectrum. I’ve been all over Australia many times on both incredible holidays and long extended business trips. (And consumed more than my share of Vickies and Coops, tyvm.)

In my experiences, black people in general are referred to as ‘Abbos’, and it seems that many white Australians do not at all think that it is a derogatory term. My experiences lead me to believe that many Australians are ‘childhood-mind-set’ thoughtlessly racist.

In the latest wave of politically-allowed anti-Muslim banter in Australia, the senseless racism against Aboriginals (“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people”), seems to follow the same frame of openly vulgar stupidity.

It’s time for Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull to reign this in.

Like growing up in the South, thinking back on it—the sheer number of racial/social epithets that were everyday living. I think I was just keeping my head down so as not to draw any more “faggot!” or “pussy!” remarks than I ordinarily had to endure.

Jay, why is anything having to do with Islam being deleted out of the comment section? Ever heard of the first amendment?

I expected the kids to get a lot more than an apology, if Tim Cook was involved. Maybe they got free merch but had to agree to not reveal it, so people don’t try to cash in after seeing that. I would’ve at least tossed them a couple iPads.

Ha. A mate of mine is a jouralist and was given the very first generation of ipad as a gift for review from apple. She had to sign several documents, not sure what they involved, but one of them was that she had to return the used ipad to apple. I think it was after a year, it might have been less.
