Fucking PC police are going too far.

Remember when, after 9/11, it was all ‘Don’t let the terrorists win!’? You remember how the fucking president and all of our politicians said to go out and shop and be merry and not be terrified that they’d be slaughtered by terrorists?

I’m slowly losing any hope of reasonable changes when we can’t even handle the exact same kind of approach and thinking we used after 9/11. Where’s my safe space...smh

  Exactly! This was my first thought, too. I was freshman in high school on 9/11 and we had goddamn football practice that afternoon. Coach literally said right before, “Guys, if we don’t do this today, they’re getting what they want. It’s a beautiful day outside, and we have the opportunity to play football. Let’s make the most of it.”

  He didn’t even say anything offensive. He refused to change his course schedule at the demand of his students. When there was no credible threat and he was 100% right that playing into the fear makes those who employ fear win.

UPDATE:

One student did arrive to take the exam. He told reporters that there was no way that he was going to let the bullies win this. Upon completion of the exam, the student, Ben Carson, was then named Most Honest Student in the class and handed $10.

Dear God. I agree with everything that’s taken place on that campus until now. The guy was trying to do an “if we do that, the terrorists win,” and it was probably the wrong approach. But there’s no way on earth he needs to resign for it. Why not shut down the whole fucking place and tell everyone to transfer to a new school if this is where they’re heading.

The professor is 100% right. Show up and take your exam. Racists saying dumb shit on whatever the hell Yik Yak is does not constitute a valid reason for missing an exam.

Somebody explain to me how forcing resignations of a new faculty or staff member every day is fixing racism.

Yes, you’re in the South, where a lot of people are still racist and shitty. The university president’s job is not to fix racism; his job is to go find money. A professor’s job is not to fix racism; his job is to teach stuff.

Speaking as a college student here, college students circa 2015 are the most thin-skinned, butthurt people on the entire planet. You are not being “systematically oppressed” at the university you are voluntarily spending thousands upon thousands of dollars to attend. Move to public housing in Ferguson if you want to experience what actual systemic oppression feels like. Here’s a hint: It doesn’t feel like idiots yelling slurs out a car window.

These students have no clue what they’re doing, and they need to get the fuck over themselves and go back to class. This is not the revolution. You are not Kent State revolting against Vietnam. You are a bunch of hyper-sensitive children who think the entire world needs to be retooled to ensure that you are treated with kid gloves in everything that you do. I shudder to think what will happen to these kids when they hit the real world and discover that, no, you cannot get random people fired by calling them racists on Twitter.

That campus is in turbulence and it’s likely that no party involved really knows how to handle this appropriately. He made an error of judgment (should’ve given people an option to take the test another day), but did this rise to the level of resignation? In my opinion, doubtful.

  He shouldn’t have resigned, and the school didn’t accept his resignation. He was right to apologize however, for not understanding the context and fear people of color on that campus have these days.
