Pertinent reminder that you can grouse and whine all you want about college activists being too sensitive and losing their minds, but not one of those activists will ever be as fragile or maniacal as the racism-addled losers they’re protesting.

No surprise here, they will never let black people have peace.

As long as there is a shining sun, there will be racists who live to hate black people.

I hope Dr. Bingham isn’t an English/Writing/Communication professor, because no one who’s meaning is that unclear should be teaching students how to use language.

Probably calculus or chemistry. Every instructor or professor I ever had in those courses was that bad or worse.

I think it is a matter of what has always been there, under the surface, just waiting for its moment to rise again.

I think, in the scheme of things, it is largely anemic, but it’s there and it’s far from dead.

So where is the media tonight. They should probably walk up to one of these guys or stop the truck and ask some questions. Oh wait they must have moved on to the next spectacle to take pics.

^ Probably the first person in the history of Columbia, Missouri, to be outraged at the lack of journalists.

There’s a widespread feeling of fear among students right now, a lot of which has been fed by unconfirmed rumors.

I know everyone has an opinion, about the protests and about the validity of threats via anonymous apps and about how the MSA president messed up and a million other things. But these threats, this entire surreal night, have had a very visceral effect on the students at MU. People are afraid for their safety, afraid to come in for classes tomorrow. Whether or not you think there is anything substantial behind these threats against black students, the people who are in Columbia, Missouri are treating this very seriously.

This is a very unclear situation, where everyone is just trying to keep students safe and informed about what is actually happening.

If I was there, I’d probably decide to stay in tomorrow and call it a “mental health/video game” day.

A number of professors have cancelled their classes tomorrow. There will be word at 6 a.m. whether all classes will be cancelled.

A “mental health day” is what a lot of students need, its been a trying couple of weeks and very hectic the last few days.

I think what is interesting, and should not be overlooked is the multiple levels of priviledge at play here, for everyone involved.

Not to delegitimize his pain or would-be martyrdom but Jonathan Butler’s family is one of the wealthiest in Omaha, the son of a multi-millionaire railroad executive.

The more puzzling thing about this is that his own struggle against the University was instigated by his outrage at losing part of his Graduate Assistant health insurance stipend. Priviledge runs in multiple directions across the spectrum!

What is your point? That he shouldn’t be outraged because he is part of the 1%?

If he was provided a health insurance stipend then he is entitled to it. Graduate assistants are not paid well, maybe he is deeply offended at the thought of his peers suffering?

1839 was built on my b(l)ack

First, not yours, but someone so remote from you that you have no fucking clue of their identity or if they even existed. Second, in my example, in 1839, my relatives were probably trying to figure out how to keep extra potatoes from their Prussian overlords so they and their kids don’t starve. I still manage to go through the Frankfurt airport without causing an international incident.

Over half the Jews I know drive German luxury cars. Maybe you focus on what’s ahead for once?

Your relatives immigrated here and managed to blend in with the ruling majority. Black people don’t have that luxury and continue to be punished for simply existing. You know that.
