In my experience, the best books are always the ones where the author has to explain the title.

I, on the other hand, prefer self-evident clarity.

“The book is titled Don Quixote, both for the name of the main character and because it sounds like “Donkey Ho-tay” in English, which is funny, and it’s a funny story, too, so it all works. Yeah.”

I lived with a musician for like 12 years. I lived in total fear that he’d get a bad review and freak out. Truly. He wasn’t super successful so if a single person on a single shitty blog said anything negative it became like days of drama for me. He needed serious help and so does this crazy dude. It’s true that a bad review for a “small” artist/writer, etc. can do a lot of damage if they are relatively unknown but man... don’t go cracking wine over a teen’s head. That’s just pitiful.

Did you go out with my ex? He used to cry and stomp out of the room for hours if he got a bad audition review.

Ha! Sounds like him. It got to the point where I was silently wishing he would just fucking quit music. It’s like you’re always miserable and you are 38. But, alas, he’s making another record and THIS ONE will be THE ONE. I should have left after a couple years. When one person’s “career” and insecurities becomes what a relationship revolves around... it’s just total shit. Learn from me, people!

As someone who himself was just rejected, it’s nice to see that I’m handling it better than this guy.

Of course, I still can’t breath right and haven’t eaten a full meal in a week, but I’m certainly not skulking around the UWS, for any reason!

      I’m sorry. Feel better.

Being rejected and rejecting someone else are social interactions we all must deal with in our lives. Coping gets easier as you get older. While it is difficult to not take personally but rejection is actually not a negative thing, the other person is giving you a heads up that some bit of chemistry is not right, so that you can move on. I try to look at it that way, at least.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the crazy-ass story of how this stalking, assault and fallout went down (500 miles to crouch down in a supermarket for a surprise attack???) would make a far better book/story than whatever the hell “Ronwind Drake” and “Ella Tundra” (really? Ella Tundra?) are up to.

Names are hard. I once wanted to name a future daughter Eve Ophelia because I thought it was pretty, and then a friend pointed out that it sounded like hemophilia. So I know it’s hard. That being said, if I picked up a novel that had those character names in it, I would be putting it down again with a swiftness and nobody could tell me that I was being unreasonable.

The woman he stalked is named Ella and “Tundra” is an anagram of her last name.

My first thought was Jimmy Shive Overly! And then the “That’s a nice Tnettenba” episode of IT Crowd. I watch too much television.

Omg, I just giggled thinking of him pulling craisins out of his pocket.

But, seriously, I think Jimmy could be capable of stalking a bad reviewer, but only to deliver his well crafted heckles, not physical harm.

Jay, I think there’s a bit of a narrative jump between some of the earlier paragraphs:

Brittain claimed the early reception for The World Rose was strong, blogging that “The praise I received was remarkable and made me feel great; I was compared to Dickens, Shakespeare, Rowling, Raymond E Feist and Nora Roberts.”

One of those teenagers was Paige Rolland...

One of what teenagers? Something seems to be missing in the published version.

ETA: Please don’t hit me with a wine bottle - I’m only trying to help!
