For those who aren’t familiar, he wrote and recorded this

Which was re-recorded and made a hit by Glen Campbell

Shows that bland and boring outsells innovative and original.

I’m listening to many folks make tributes and playing his music on wwoz the New Orleans community radio station (a fantastic station by the way) if anyone wants to listen.

Man, I was just in New Orleans last weekend taking in the jazz on Frenchman. Everyone there owes this guy. If there was a place I had to die though, Spain would probably be it. RIP.

Never less than kind and erudite in interviews. He was a musician’s musician and an arranger’s arranger, but his personality really shone through when he stepped away from the piano.

He was one of the greats. At the very least, if I had to go out, I’d go out in Spain. Cured ham stuffed down my throat, and some Basque cider in my cup. Best way to do it.
