I hope this story catches the attention of SpongeBob’s people and they reach out (putting him in a cartoon would be awesome). Smart, brave kid. Lucky girl. (I love her response)

My uncle did a tracheotomy on my cousin with a steak knife and a straw. He had seen it done on M*A*S*H*. According to the paramedics it saved my cousin’s life. My uncle was a periodontist so the surgery wasn’t as challenging, but he did have to puncture his son’s throat. He wrote a letter to the producers and they responded with a letter signed by the whole cast and with an autographed picture for my cousin

Damn! I remember that episode. But not well enough to do the procedure. Yow! That’s impressive.

As a son-haver, my only response is a very wide-eyed “jeeeeeeeeeeeeezzz”. Holy crap, that is heroic.

Okay. Sure. This is great. But *is it enough* to cancel out all the times that stupid song sends someone into a potentially murderous rage?

You do realize that it’s just an update of the old sea shanty, “Blow the Man Down”, right? It also appeared in the Big Bang Theory in its original form.

    It’s lucky he was vaccinated.

And /s, good for him! It’s one thing to learn the correct response to an emergency, and another thing to actually do it.

It’s this the truth. I’ve had extensive first aid training including training on how to deal with people have seizures. The first time my dog had a seizure I flipped out and did literally everything wrong.

And teeth. I was babysitting one time and one of the kids knocked out his front tooth and I promptly put it in a glass of milk, just like the cartoon dinosaur on the commercial had been telling me for years. When his dad got home, he scoffed at me for doing that but later called me back to thank me because the dentist was impressed that someone had thought to do that.

An experience like this one is bound to forge a connection, but Brandon and Jessica make clear that one already existed. “He’s awesome and cute,” Jessica tells Eyewitness News. On Thursday, she folded him into an embrace and softly told him “Thank you.”

As for Brandon, well, he too made his affection clear. “I just love her,” he toldStaten Island Live.

OMG! I’m tearing up. Such sweetness. Go Brandon. You’re awesome and did a wonderful thing.

“Jessica and Brandon will go to different high schools and except for the occasional text or email, will not stay in touch. Brandon will go to a college on the west coast and begin living with a woman. Jessica will spend 3 years in the Peace Corps, return to get a degree in special education from Florida State, and then get engaged to a doctor. Sadly, Brandon and his love will break up, and he will move back to NY, where a friend will invite him to a party and he’ll begin talking to a woman who is in NY attending the wedding of a friend. The woman will choke on the olive in her martini and Brandon will save her. She’ll tell him how a young man in elementary school once saved her from choking, and they’ll realize their previous history. As happy as they are to reconnect, unfortunately the timing will be bad, as Jessica is engaged. They will part, vowing to stay in touch. Brandon will begin dating someone else, but Jessica will break up with her doctor. Jessica will find herself in NY again, interviewing for a position as a special ed teacher, when she’ll run into Brandon who is one of the senior teachers interviewing her. This time the timing is right, as Brandon has recently broken up with the woman he was seeing. They were married at Petunias, an event space in Staten Island, 2 blocks from the Intermediate School where Brandon first saved Jessica’s life. Each wedding guest received a small plastic replica of Spongebob Squarepants.

Were I to do this, the chair would flip up and out and land on my head. Absolutely guaranteed.

And it would be in public.

Androgynous cartoon sponge? Get it straight. His name is Bob, he wears square pants and he’s asexual!!

All kidding aside, this wins feel-good story of the day and anyone who watches SpongeBob can learn lots of life lessons, not just life saving techniques.

Agreed. I tried to convince a SB-hating co-worker who wouldn't let his kid watch the show that SB is actually a great role model. Who is a better friend? Who has a better attitude? Who is a more conscientious employee? The world would be a better place if we were all a little more like SpongeBob.
