I wonder how Putin will proceed in Syria following this incident. If, in fact, it can be proven that a bomb brought the flight down (or, at the very least, the preponderance of evidence points in that direction), that would mean that ISIS—or an ISIS-affiliated group (I’m never certain how close those affiliations are)—killed Russian citizens.

That may change the game for Putin at home—or it might not. Russia’s military history, through the USSR years and back to Tsarist times, indicates that any direct strike on the Russian people will generally be met with a forceful response.

I’m really not a fan of old Vlad—particularly after his annexation of the Crimea and his latest military adventure in Syria—but I think it will be very, very interesting to see what Russia does in the wake of this loss of civilian life.

Clarity: I’m not in any way trying to diminish the loss of the civilians who died on the plane; I am, instead, wondering what Putin will do as a reaction to those civilian losses. It sucks when soldiers die in a war being fought in a foreign land—but they signed up to fight, knowing death was a possibility.

Civilians enter into no such contract when they travel abroad—and the deaths of so many at the hands of an IS-affiliated group are sure to have some sort of social impact back home.

The response will probably be forceful

Good points. Wouldn’t put it past putin to take out a planeload of his own citizens if it gave him sympathy leverage to uphold Assad in more nefarious ways though. I’ve been keeping an eye on the news about his dick swinging around Finland and Scandinavia as well, and he is just getting way too arrogant.

I guess now the Russians will be targeting ISIS instead of al-Assad’s oposition.

I sincerely hope ISIS wins this one. I hate ISIS, but I don’t want to see them defeated by Russia.

Why do they put things like that in quotes? I don’t understand the style standard over there.

I guess the Daily Fail know that it wasn’t really an attack but they like to sensationalise things. They have to put it in quotes to cover themselves.
