“He added that the officers involved – there are four – had so far refused to speak with state police investigators.”

Gotta have time to get their lies stories straight.

Look, I get why people last night didn’t want to assume the worst/were trying to be tentative, but the notion that proper procedure could ever lead to a child being shot (multiple times) through a driver’s side window is absolutely disgusting. I guess my point being, if that’s your proper procedure, it isn’t worth shit.

yeah, I’m definitely getting sick of the excuse, “he was actually following procedure.” If we’ve learned anything in the last few years it’s that maybe police need to change their procedure if it continually results in the murder of innocent people and execution of people who were never given a trial. “He was following procedure” should not be the end of the conversation.

This- yes. I was honestly shocked to see so many people condone the police violence and shift condemnation on to the father. This seemed not only ethically questionable but logically absurd to me- exactly what procedures would allow for and encourage such devestatingly reckless violence? People uncritically throw around the words “self defense” as a way to explain away police behavior as if the use of deadly force is the inevitable and only response to feeling “threatened.” The use of the word threat in this manner has completely stripped the word of any meaning as we have seen the police use violence on objectively docile and harmless victims who are posthumously constitued as sites of danger and aggression. The fact that people haven’t fucking woken up to the crisis of police violence is shocking to me- even more shocking is that this ignorance runs so deep the death of a child was excused and accepted as unfortunate but perfectly legitimate. Ultimately why do people so often think police are more truthful and less failable than average people? In what ways do our construction of the police as superhuman depend on the dehumanization of those they kill? I think that relationship is integral but am just working through it. Anyway, reading your comment gave me some faith. Sending good vibes to you.

He was reportedly afraid of the marshals “because he and one of the marshals on the scene had a prior personal conflict.”

    .

    There we have it.

Talk about “burying the lede”— though, I like when the last sentence of the story is more chock-full of explanation than the whole rest of it.

Man, it’s going to be a shitstorm when they release the video...

In my stupid, prideful mind, a reader makes it to the end of the post and gets crushed flat by its conclusion. Maximum emotional impact!

In reality, a reader makes it to the end and thinks, “homeboy buried the lead.”

      Ah well.

No worries, it was more of an acknowledgement of technique than a complaint.

I admired your use of release of dramatic tension, in any case. I definitely heard the little voice in my head go “ah HA!”

Thank you for continuing to report on this story. I came across the initial report on Gawker last light and was disgusted. I went so far as to make a conscious effort to check CNN, Yahoo, HuffPost and the like to check for any updates but to no avail. In fact, it doesn’t appear they are even covering this at all. Please continue to report as findings are made. I, for one, want to know the truth with this.

Me too. Even the local coverage was incredibly light for a story with so many holes in it and questions to be asked. It was reported plainly and simply. Like standard procedure. Seems they’re too busy with 24-7 detailed reporting on all levels and varieties of sports to dig into something like this.

And the comments weren’t exactly asking anyone to dig deeper. For everyone questioning, there were three or four people more concerned with chastising Few for apparently knowingly putting his autistic son’s life in danger.

There’s clearly a hell of a lot more to this and I sincerely hope the truth actually makes it out, but I don’t have high hopes. All I anticipate at this point is a very well crafted story coming out placing 100% of the blame right back on Few and absolving the officers of any wrongdoing whatsoever.

SHOCKED I say I am just SHOCKED that they are

    1) Refuse to cooperate with the investigation

    2) At the 48-hour mark, they freely admit to not having watched the video yet.

    3) The local government is walking back virtually every detail of the case

/The kid is white tho, so he might see some justice.

How stupid you are, when the Zackory Hammond case saw no prosecution despite a video clearly showing that the cop shot the kid dead when he was clear of any danger. In contrast, the Sam Dubose case saw murder charges over nearly the same thing. Guess who was white and guess who was black?
