    Wtf?

    I never can understand this.

Look, people, Christianity is a bullshit pre-modern worldview which bases its ENTIRE STRUCTURE on a garbage book written 2,000 years ago by illiterate savages inhabiting the shittiest part of the then-Roman Empire.

To base your life on this kind of historical detritus is, at the least, complete lunacy.

Why in the fuck would a person willingly submit themselves to such patent bullshittery?

      I don’t understand how/why anyone is religious in 2015.

      I agree 100%

It really bothers me how pervasive the church is in black American culture—people waste so much, time, money, and energy on this stuff. I understand that it is a source of hope and community for people, but I think it does more harm than good.

“It dismisses the notion that being gay and Christian is paradoxical”

It sort of is, though. The Bible is pretty explicitly anti-gay in a bunch of places that can’t really just be explained away.

It’s actually a lot less explicit than one would think. The Old Testament is obviously bonkers bigoted in too many ways to count, but the NT is more difficult to parse, especially when you get down to the actual source material and not translations. The biggest bit of anti-gay writing in the NT is from Paul, who uses the koine word arsenokoitai. The only hitch is that it’s a made up word that you can’t find anywhere else, so what exactly is meant by it is up for debate. It’s most frequently translated into English as ‘homosexual,’ but that’s definitely not a 100% accurate translation. At the very least, we can tell from the grammatical structure of ‘arsenokoitai’ that it’s specifically referring to men, so lesbians at least appear to get a pass. Which men exactly are being condemned is actually a pretty hot topic today, with some arguing that it’s referring to temple prostitution rather than same sex relations.

It’s not paradoxical because you can still have salvation if you are gay. We’re saved by faith not by works. Granted if one is gay and a Christian they may feel compelled to not commit those sins anymore and that’s between them and God to work out. Their private business. But they’re not saved by “not acting gay anymore.”

It’s sad that so many Christians have knee-jerk reactions to homosexuality that they can't preach the Gospel to them.
