Lucky’s full title should have been “Lucky I make so much money that I can afford anything that we feature”.

People Stylewatch is recreating basically the same magazine as lucky at a much lower price point and is doing fine.

Lucky used to have affordable items in its magazine. It’s why I used to read it some years ago. As their showcased fashion prices climbed into the stratosphere, I checked out.

Perfect picture: a “magazine” with no content hawked by an “actress” with no substance.

Including a Kate Bosworth pic is fantastic shade. (I think that counts as shade. This place has me so self-conscious about using that word now.)

If there is no Shade Judge, does shade still exist?

I flipped through Lucky a few times and all I saw, over and over, was that some item of clothing was “wearable”. WTF does that mean? What clothing is NOT wearable? Is someone manufacturing shirts without neck holes, or underwear made of razor blades? Why do I need to be reassured that products are capable of the bare minimum of function for which they are designed? If you mean that it’s versatile, or low-maintenance, or comfortable, then f*cking say so.

I see it used sometimes when talking about fashion shows, mostly to mean that it’s the opposite of stuff like this. But it’s weird when taken to a magazine and used to describe items that are for sale and in mass production.

I love examining the expressions on the models’ faces as they come down the runway wearing these things. “I look ridiculous and I know it but I’m getting money, so....”

I will mourn the consumerist “WANT” and “NEED” shopping stickers that end up all over my person at the hair salon.

I got a free subscription a few years back and I just wanted to buy the people there a thesaurus. Although to be fair, there are really only so many ways you can say something is cute or stylish, I guess.

OMG yes, I forgot that one. I liked it as a way to scope out shopping and trends, but it went better if I ignored most of the text.

My mother was being sent this magazine for a while, for some reason. Every issue she picked up, glanced at the content, asked “What is this shit and why is it being sent to me?” and immediately threw it away because it was about as far from her interests as is possible. That tells me something about why the magazine failed if that was their distribution strategy.
