Ohio voter here... this half-baked (heh) scheme was an opportunistic financial interest attempting to corner the weed market in Ohio for an indeterminate amount of time. Could not be more thankful it did not pass - Ohio’s state legislature/Governor make damn sure that the interests of the wealthiest and most connected are over-represented. Last thing we needed was an entrenched oligarchy dominating an industry that SHOULD be a vibrant (legal) job-creator in approximately five years.

Populism won in Ohio today. That is a good thing.

Yeah I agree. I couldn’t believe it when I heard about the provision that would have limited growing rights to 10 entities. Way to fuck over your home state, Nick.

It took multiple attempts here in Oregon to craft the right Measure in order to get legalization passed. We had a similar poorly-written attempt prior to legalizing on the most recent election. It'll happen eventually - for everyone.

Even my pothead friends were skeptical about Issue 3. Copy and paste Colorado’s system for next year’s ballot, it will pass. With all the political activity in Ohio, it won’t be that hard to get the signatures. You could get the necessary number of signatures at like 3 Bernie rallies and Comfest.

It’s not so simple. Ohio doesn’t have a med-use foundation the same way we had it in CO. We had many years to set up and refine the dispensary system and work out the production regulations. Our law isn’t all that great, either, in terms of the taxation level being high enough to still feed the black market. We also had to pass a second measure yesterday to actually keep and use the excess collections for the purposes originally outlined for it. So, I think Ohio needs to start with med-use, get the production and edible labeling pieces sorted, and then try for rec when they’re ready. Baby steps.

Legal marijuana is never going to happen in America. California rejected it in 2008, Ohio is rejecting it now. There’s no sign of any change on the federal level. It’s time to accept this and move on to fights than can be won.

Uhh...it’s legal for recreational use in Alaska and Colorado and Oregon and Washington and is legal for medicinal use and decriminalized Washington D.C.

It’s really hard to care about this when it’s posted right on the heels of the Houston rejection.

The fact that the Houston rejection is being seen as the bigger and more shocking issue shows the sad fuckin state of affairs we find ourselves in. Think about how much private corporation and law enforcement fuckery happens as a result of marijuana criminalization and the War On Drugs. That shit affects everyone and the more states that approve these policies the closer we are to ending the issue nationwide. HERO is certainly not a small issue, but it’s significantly smaller in regards to both scale and importance when weighing it against dealing a huge blow to the war on drugs.

Would you care more if I told you that there’s a serious bathroom-related issue going on here too? People want to go to the bathroom that’s in their home, but instead they’re going to the bathroom in a fucking state penitentiary because they had the audacity to possess a plant.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the news. Oregon did it right, Colorado did it right....Washington got fucked by our law which was extremely poorly written and favoring of wealthy businessmen who could afford to essential buy a license.

Ohio Voters Reject Issue 3, Harshing the Mellows of Stoners Shady Monopolists Statewide

    Ohio made the right call.

If they had enough to pass a bad law, they have enough to pass a good law.

“Square” ass people who don’t support voting monopolies into existence. The people already smoking pot will continue to do so, and we’ll get a fairer measure on the ballot next time.

How about we discuss Issue 1, which will pass an amendment effectively killing gerrymandering in the state of Ohio?
