So she responded to what amounts to sexual assault with stalking and harassment...

    *facepalm*

Okay, this lady’s actions? That is precisely what NOT to do.

Calling the police? That is what you do... except that, what he was doing isn’t actually illegal in most of the U.S.

Yeah. It’s that whole “no right to privacy in a public space” that makes security cameras legal loophole.

The yelling is beyond what she should have done because it edges into harassment, which is illegal, but I think following and filming him is kind of an ideal response because it is legal. As you said.

Why call the police for no reason? I agree there are situations where pursuing the dude would be too dangerous to risk but this was a busy street during the day, I might have weighed the risk/reward and made the same choice as her. Something has to be done about people like this, and she did not break any laws. I say great job.

My heart is absolutely pounding watching that. I know it's risky to confront men but good for her and I admire her courage.

My anxiety is way too high today to watch the video. Fuck that guy. I hope he gets doxxed, sorry not sorry.

Also this is dangerous as hell but at least she is confronting him on Newbury Street, which is both fairly busy and also fancy pants.

Just a heads up to any women who might be in a similar situation - Do NOT ask them to delete the video/photo. Its evidence, and without it there is no legal ramification.

There is no legal ramification anyway. Him filming them in public is completely legal, creepy or not.

As an aside, any actual “street photographer” who took your photo would likely delete the photo if you asked. Some people who do street photography ask for permission before they take portraits, but others prefer candid photos or street scenes. However, if anyone ever saw me take their photo in a candid setting and asked me to delete it, I would do it without question. Almost everything I have ever read that was written by another photographer says the same. (The only thing I can think of as a possible exception is for a photojournalism/news event type scenario).

Is this a Boston thing? I had some old creep do the same thing to me literally two blocks away (Mass and Comm) in April. He was taking pictures of the flowers and then oddly just started to take pictures down an empty-but-for-me sidewalk as I walked toward him into the wind while wearing a wrap dress that kept flipping open at the bottom to reveal the tops of my stockings. So I started taking pictures of him and as I got close and said, “Hey, dickbag, how does it feel having some random stranger take pictures of you as you’re just walking down the street?” And he covered him face and scurried away like the rodent he is. And I posted pictures of him online, because he knew what he was doing and was obviously ashamed of it. Unless, of course, there was something fascinating about the Comm Ave sidewalk at the level of my crotch and thighs and I was terribly mistaken.

I think he's used to women ignoring him because they are afraid. When you actually say something, they get REALLY surprised. Oh yeah, you forgot we were fucking people, didn't you! Ugh.

There’s been a lot on the news over the past few months in Boston about women being assulted in public and most of the other cases, if I remember correctly, have been far more violent. The latest was near one of the Harvard dorms: a student was walking her dog in the middle of the night when a van came out of nowhere, a white male got out and made a run for her. She quickly got back in her dorm and shut the door just as he reached her. I usually watch WBZ at night and there seems to be an assault, attempted assault or attempted child abduction almost every day over the past few months. As far as I know tho, this could be normal for a big city.

So dangerous, and brave. It takes serious guts to confront men in public. One time a man took a photo of me at a pizza place and I marched up and demanded he delete it while I watched. It was very scary! But I think it shakes them. Maybe if we all start being brave we can discourage creeps. Maybe not tho since confrontation is dangerous.

Letting men like this think they can intimidate women into silence is what’s really dangerous.

Hmm. That’s funny - Boston cops don’t like to be recorded in public, and will forcibly demand that innocent bystanders or people filming their own traffic stops, stop recording. But a creep violates her by filming her private parts and that of minors - which constitutes child pornography, a very illegal thing, btw- and they have no problem with it. Interesting.

So it’s ok for them to say “no video” but it’s not ok for anyone else.

Oh, and BPD has no body cams or dash cams, so when they do stupid shit, it’s your word against theirs. But you can’t film them in your car, in public, without announcing it first and having their consent.

    I hate hypocritical bullshit.

From the article, it appears that everyone was clothed. That would make it weird, creepy, inappropriate, and 100% legal.

unless I’m mistaken I think Mass is one of the few states where you can’t record without both parties’ permission. So while it’s not right, the cops legally can tell you not to record.

I don’t even think s/he is a troll, just a contrarian with a painful inability to think critically about just about anything. As I said above, I’m pretty sure s/he’s the same person who argued that Gamergate is a legitimate social movement exactly like feminism.

Also can I say, I really don’t get some fetishes. What do you get out of clothed butt and crotch pics? Like aren’t there tons of those pics online? You don’t need to go out and get your own. Or is that where the excitement lies? In the filming rather than the viewing?

Either way, get a new hobby guy.

Yeah, it’s the blatant invasion of someone’s expectations of privacy. Like a peeping tom. You can see a million things on the internet but creeping on some kid in person without their consent, well that’s what gets his rocks off. He’s a fucking piece of shit.
