    I’m seeing prices of $4-$6 a sq.ft. for cleaning wool Oriental rugs. I’m really, really bad at math, but according to my calculations their rug must have been 7,000x 3,200? (approx)

    This makes a lot of sense. Nice rugs should stay clean! Poor buddies.

    In other news, I’ve got a dead rat in my apartment’s wall that will apparently (according to both an exterminator and my landlord) stay there until it fully decomposes and so my kitchen smells like permanent rotting garbage now. Which is also fun and makes sense.

      Shudder. And your landlord has refunded or discounted your rent for the duration of the dead rodent smell? Did they do what most people do and set out poison and then become shocked when the poisoned rodents did not evaporate or die in convenient locations?

      IDK, but the father of of a fiend owns an orthopedic practice and owns a boat and a vacation house in Nantucket. I, on the other hand, am currently putting a timing belt in a 16 yo Honda (well paying for someone to do it) to coax more life out of it. Vet school seemed like a great idea at one point.

        I thought maybe it was a precious, fragile antique rug. Maybe it had to be cleaned by someone who specializes in restoration and preservation. But that can’t be the case if the carpet guys ‘rolled it up’ and took it away. Very confusing, I’m with you.

      My cousin was an antique dealer and he used to take his Persian carpets to the do-it-yourself car wash and hose them down. I have no idea how wise this is, but his rugs looked gorgeous.
