    JFC of course there would be a KKK student group at Ole Miss. Still, I am pleasantly surprised to see that such a majority in the student government voted to remove the flag.

      I admit, I was raised in the north, by a mother from the south, and she treated it like a joke. Something to be mocked, the “Loser Pride” flag.

      Until I moved to the south myself, I didn’t realize these sort of people really existed.

    I recently had a neighbor tell me “you know how they’re banning the confederate flag? I bought one, while I still can get one, to piss people off!”

    Dude. No one is “banning” the flag, you can still buy the dumb things, and that is the worst reasoning ever to do that. Also we are not in a former confederate state. Also you are a minority and this seems counter-intuitive.

      I kind of got into it with my FIL once over the “they’re coming for our guns!” thing. I asked him if he owns the same number of - if not more - guns now than he did on January 19, 2009. If the answer is “yes” then his fucking guns are fine.

      He also gave my husband (his son) a box of bullets for Christmas one year “just in case they’re harder to come by soon.”

      How about the fact that they have the highest vaccination rate in the entire nation? No, really. The highest!

      And I think it’s because in the South you have more generations living together than you do in the rest of the nation. Grandma and Grandpa (As well as Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa) are often the head of the family unit. Now we are talking about a generation who grew up before vaccinations and saw the horrors of so many diseases on their friends and family. And I can imagine hearing their kids going, “Yeah, I am not going to vaccinate my kid. I read this thing online and they said they are actually toxic and unnatural.” And Grandma grabbing her child’s ear and going, “Oh, yes, you are vaccinating the babies. Your uncle got Polio back in ‘53 because they didn’t have a vaccine back then. No grandbaby of mine is going through that nightmare.”
