No but guys! This is important. If my marriage license hadn’t specified “bride” and “groom” how would we have known which is which?

I might have thought I was a groom and started shaving my face and working outside the home! My husband might have started wearing lipstick, and baking cakes while crying because I’m having sex with the secretary!

Plus it gets EVEN MORE complicated. If we mistook me for the groom, and my husband has a penis, does that make him gay?

Which of us carries the baby? How do you count to ten? Whats the difference between China and Japan? did the holocaust happen or was it a 4chan hoax?

How’s i supposeds to be a wife’s when it aints say bride on mys marriage certificate??

The argument they were making is that it will be useful for collecting and analyzing data in the future if the genders are clearly delineated. Actually, I agree with them, but I still don’t see why that merits a totally separate form. How about an either/or terminology, like: Groom/Spouse 1, Bride/Spouse 2, and let them circle the applicable term?

Party 1/Party 2 does seem cold. I like the idea of circling what you want. Bride/groom/spouse.

If I could have a vote, please.

(For the collecting data you can have a seperate field for male/female. Having worked in government where I’ve had to create forms and stuff I can empathize with the data collection aspect of it.)

Ok, but why do the hetero couples get nice warm fuzzy words and the same-sex couples don’t? I mean, if your argument is that you find “Party A” and “Party B” cold and impersonal, then why not forms that are “Bride” and “Groom”, but also ones where both fields are labeled “Bride” or “Groom”? Or, for the purpose of efficiency, why not list all options in both fields and let the parties circle which terms apply to them, like you suggest? That seems like the best option if you are not actually trying to create a separate but equal marraige license situation.

I don’t know. I’m suggesting the put them all in both fields and let parties circle. So I don’t know why that’s so hard for them other than bigotry.

And, on top of that, they can have a field for male/female/other/prefer not to disclose. If data collection matters.

Also HIPAA. Because email is a no no for protected health information where I work, so I have to spend half my day faxing things and calling people on the phone like an animal.

All this seems to reveal with the dual licensing is that much of Kentucky still subcribes to “separate but equal."

They want “separate and lesser”, but will settle for the appearance of equal.

Remember, separate forms makes it so much easier to invalidate marriages en masse if they find a loophole or manage to rightward shift SCOTUS again. Or worse.

Davis originally offered to fax them, writing, “I am old school on this email stuff.”

That’s not the only thing she’s old school on. (She’s making me hate the term old school).

Is there a real reason why need actual marriage licenses? People who love each other should not have their marriage be taken hostage by these hateful people.
