No matter how ridiculous it is that he was on AOL - even Hillary’s much discussed email wasn’t on a public provider like that - do these kids think that their lives aren’t doomed for breaching it and bragging about it?

If they’re 13, I doubt they’re considering any consequences. Anyways the worst case is they get a job offer from some SV libertarian-backed firm and end up a-ok.

They are either going to pound-me-in-the-ass-Federal-prison for the rest of their lives, or will be recruited into a blacker-than-black off the books anti-terrorism task force in need of some hackers who don’t mind breakin’ da law.

If true, it’s unsettling that the head of one of the most powerful organizations on earth uses AOL. Does he still use Yahoo to search too?

Actually I find it kind of comforting. You have to understand: My entire worldview is that ‘nobody quite knows what they’re doing.’* And that that to me is a source of reassurance. To know that there really are freaky super-duper individuals and organizations out there? That would scare me.

*And yes, I fully include myself in this schema.

I have four email accounts for various uses. Did they hack his “main” one or something “less private” private one?

oh GOD. this is really hard to face. it’s actually really terrible and reflects horribly on American ideals and all that this country stands for.

an AOL ACCOUNT???? for chrissakes. John. Brennan. It is 2015. Not 1995. No amount of internet shame can approach what you should be feeling right now.

Alright its clear they got one of this guys passwords. As someone that works in IT and cybersecurity I am not surprised. The higher up the food chain someone is, the dumber they are about stuff like this.

“one of the most powerful men in the world” doesn’t mean shit. He may have clout and a beast mode job but if you are too fucking lazy to lock your doors then you are begging some teenage dumbass to creep into your shit and loot it.

It is not hard to switch up your password every 30 days.

It doesn’t take a “IT Skills” to randomize your password. How fucking hard is it to spell out the address you grew up in and use that as a password? Or reverse order of your first phone number? name and date you got laid for the first time?! ANYTHING! Swap it up!

Without fail, a CEO or CIO or shot-caller will be too fucking lazy or preoccupied to take this shit seriously. Well my friend from the CIA, enjoy. Not only do you get the stigma of being the head of the preeminent intelligence agency on the fucking planet to have his account spoofed (NOT hacked), but you get pegged as a dumbfuck AOL user.

On a side note. I have to say that Hilary Clinton actually using a privately owned, maintained email server was actually a smart idea and pretty secure.

Him randomzing his password wouldn’t mean anything, since they got his provider to reset the password.
