Ah, convict alley. Two blocks from my apt. The New York Police Department of Gentrification just cleared it.

I do take issue with the “5 per center” cult speak. The “supreme mathematics” is about a profound as scientology auditing. Which isn’t really a stretch given the NOI and Scientology have now joined forces and Louis Farakhan is requiring all NOI adherents to become Scientology auditors. Maybe quoting the 5 per center quackery helped the director speak to his subjects, and it was forced upon him as a minor, but I hope he doesn’t subscribe to such nonsense today. It’s sad to see such snake oil salesmen, as the NOI and it’s offshoots have produced, taken advantage of the real need for black pride and empowerment simply to create cults of personality for their own gain.

“the Five Percent Nation—the lessons of 120 Degrees, Supreme Mathematics and Supreme Alphabet—it helped me to know how to present myself, how to be civilized, how to be fearless.”

Just like the mumbo-jumbo of Scientology. Clarence 13X-L.Ron Hubbard, laugh-out-loud conmen.

So you say you are a “slave”? What a ridiculous pile of crap. I have never heard of any slaves who were writers, scholars, and photographers. It is incomprehensible, and such commentary just gives people excuses

This looks dope. Too bad it’s not going to be screened in my part of Europe. My students could use some broadening of their cultural horizons, especially with the recent rise of racism and xenophobia here.
