So like, I’m really hoping that today’s Dirtbag is coming late b/c it’ll be filled with all sorts of fun, light-hearted celebrity gossip items after this and the most recent news about Lamar.

    Right?

    Right...?

Wrote this before I saw that Dirtbag had already gone up; just didn’t see it right away b/c I got here a little late this morning, but now it’s too late for me to edit so I can to look silly permanently. Thanks Kinja!

Kinja can be an unforgiving asshole sometimes. I mean, most of the time.

Given the time frame here aren’t such high damages going to be especially hard to obtain? Recognizing that they’re sought with intent to reduce but - it’s been 7 years and for those 7 years her career has continued and her life has continued on the same trajectory as prior. She could get a payout for the emotional trauma but most courts have some standard-ish figure for that. Just seems hard to claim 7 years later this has negatively affected the outcome of her life.

Reading the article helps to understand things. Like the fact that the suit was filed several years ago and the trial is just now getting to court. And the fact that extreme amounts of damages are often sought in cases like this, not at all expecting that to be the end judgement delivered by the court.

Nope! I think they are low. Dude the hotel told her stalker she was staying there, and allowed him to stay in the room next to hers. That is some unforgivable shit right there. And there is no way to tell what effect this has had on her career because it can not ever be undone.

Awful Announcing, which covers sports media, had a great breakdown of why Andrews is owed every damn penny. (My emphasis.)

The suit also states that Marriott employees, “were negligent in their acts and/or omissions by, amongst other things, revealing that Plaintiff ERIN ANDREWS would be, or was, a guest” then “by revealing Plaintiff’s hotel room, by facilitating BARRETT’S conduct by intentionally placing him in the room next to Plaintiff ERIN ANDREWS, and by failing to discover that Defendant BARRETT altered the peephole of Plaintiff’s hotel room door, thereby allowing surreptitious videos to be take of Plaintiff by BARRETT.”

In other words, someone who works for the hotel told some creep on the phone that Erin Andrews was staying there. Then, per the complaint, someone who works for the hotel gave that same creep an adjacent room to hers. Then, nobody working there noticed the guy vandalizing a hotel room door—not his hotel room by the way, but the one next to his where a very famous woman was staying—to swap out the peephole so he could record what was on the other side. No one apparently saw, or did, anything.

I was working in hospitality when the happened. Under no circumstance do you ever everevereverever give out a person’s room number. If somebody calls and asks for that person, then you can transfer them up. I’ve gotten so many moms/kids/drunk dudes yell at me because I wouldn’t give them the room number of their relative. Also, never say room numbers out loud: just point to the number written on the key packet and direct them to the elevator. If it is somebody who cannot read the number, then send the bellman with them. It’s super simple stuff.

I’m no fan of her, but I completely agree she deserves every penny. That hotel was ridiculously negligent and totally in the wrong.

This was an extreme violation of her privacy and I hope that she is able to be comfortable when she stays in hotels now.

Defense attorneys, according to The Smoking Gun, argued that Andrews’ claims were “unreasonably vague and ambiguous”

Um, besides the defense attorneys, anyone unclear on what happened and why it is grounds for a lawsuit?

alleging that hotel workers revealed to Barrett that Andrews would be in the hotel, informed Barrett which room she would be staying in, and allowed him to stay in the room next door to hers

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck that. All of the nopes in the world for that nonsense. Bitches better have her money.

Seriously. Aren’t there enough red flags here even if you’re asking about a normal person and not a celebrity? “Oh, so this woman is in 312? Can I stay next door please?” Fuck that.

You’d think that would be the basic first step of training to work in a hotel. I mean, hell, I work at a college and we’re told never to tell anyone at all about which students go here or where they are at any given time. Insane.

I wonder what they want Maks to testify about.

I’m glad Erin has stood up against the jerks like Christine Brennan who tried to blame her for what happened. She wasn’t even the only one he filmed, she was just the most recognizable.

He may be able to testify to her mental state. He was her partner on DWTS pretty soon after this all went down. Additionally, I remember that there were all kinds of craptastic comments saying that she was dressed so revealingly on DWTS that why was she mad about being secretly taped in roughly the same state of undress. And that’s all I remember because my brain exploded at men’s entitlement and justification.

GOOD. I’m sure similar things have happened to other women in the often-misogynist sports industry, but it’s been hush-hush due to threats of retaliation. Hopefully this will motivate them to speak up.

If you ever read “Heads in Beds” by Jacob Tomsky, you know that hotel workers are notoriously abused by management and even a small tip goes a looooong way. All the stalker had to do was slip the desk clerk some andrew Jacksons with his credit card and he would have the info he wanted.
