Ever since watching this movie I have been really thinking a lot about the necessity of sadness and how by avoiding it I’ve just made my emotional issues worse. Disney/Pixar is actually making me work on my mental/emotional health. I mean. For Fuck’s Sake.

It’s helped me understand girls better. I have three nieces.

But, I was almost flattened when they showed inside the Mom’s head and Sadness was at the helm in adulthood, and Joy was by then a bit player.

Why you gotta do me like that, Pixar?

God this is fucked up. I can’t help but feeling like a downer but women in their 20s complying as teens for pre-teens just reeks of the sad part of the age we live in. Its not that its all bad, I’m not that cynical. Social media and technology have given us wonderful things. We can communicate thoughts, images, and events in ways previous generations have never dreamed of. Even the often complained of self-promotion isn’t necessarily bad. Its created jobs, given confidence to people and allowed people to explore their individuality. But...

“Life’s too short to be sad…EVER!”

I think its this line that gets me. No self examination…EVER! No thoughts on how the world sucks and how to make it better….EVER! Teens years should be fun but its also when your becoming an adult. Adulthood isn’t all fun.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m reading too much into this. My boss is away so I have some time to kill.

That line comes off to me as “Ignore the suffering and hardships of others. It’ll just bring you down.” I can’t tell from this story but I wonder if there was one message about helping others. This all sounds like “help yourself only.”

I had a student who failed an exam recently. They were given a chance to pull their grades up by doing corrections, which could have brought her up to a C. She didn’t do it, explaining that she didn’t want to study or do “extra work” because it made her sad (that is the word she used). This is an adult, 20 years old.

“I hope your message is that this is fucked up,” a mom of a 10-year-old YouTube fan told me Monday night.

    I like this woman. lol

Still, this shit seems a million times more healthy than them obssessing over someone like Justin Bieber.

Nope. I’d rather them be obsessing over Bieber, who at least has some talent hidden away and the staying power to be relevant for more than six months. Narcissistic YouTube “stars” have to be the worst role models on the planet.

Except for Grace Helbig, of course.

I am sure there is a dark, dystopia/sci-fi novel written around the 80s about this phenomenon. If it there isn’t one, we should retroactively create it.

I don’t think so because no one could have imagined this, not even the most creative mind.

Life’s too short to be sad...EVER

I don’t know- untimely death of a loved one, especially a child is pretty sad.

I mean, there’s famine, war, natural disasters, plagues. Genocide is not exactly teddy bears and rainbows, either. ISIS throwing gay men off of buildings to their death. Beheadings. Drug Cartels. Corrupt governments.

But, then again, maybe I'm just a Zoloft raincloud.

When I was a kid, some weird group came to our school and sang and skitted positively about humanity. I think they were called “Up with People.”

This seems similar, maybe a little more "Fucked up with People."

My ex step father was with Up With People during their heyday. He remained unrelentingly “let a smile be your umbrella” and exactly what another poster said - no self examination, no internal thought. My brother and I did not care for him. We are grouches.

We’re all aware of what happens to child stars. It will be supremely interesting to see what happens to all of these young ‘stars’ when the next fad hits. When the ‘Life’s too short to be sad EVER’ maxim is challenged, that’s when the entertainment starts.

Simpsons had a better lesson than this bull 30 years ago.

Marge: Lisa, I apologize to you. I was wrong, I take it all back. Always be yourself. If you want to be sad, honey, be sad. We’ll ride it out with you, and when you get finished feeling sad, we’ll still be there. From now on, let me do the smiling for both of us.

(Lisa smiles, and hugs her mother.)

    Lisa: Okay, Mom.

Marge: I said you could stop smiling, Lisa.

    Lisa: I feel like smiling.

I work in digital marketing and Google keeps trying to convince us that these YouTube stars have as much clout as other stars. It’s just not true. It’s a scam, they don’t have any sort of real impact, and they’re way too expensive for what you get.

Every time a brand partners with these “stars”, the ROI is so minimal. They’re just not big enough for people to really care.

Is that really true though? Like don’t the “conventions” where these people show up always draw tens of thousands of people? I feel like when I babysit my neighbors 12 year old these idiots are the only things she EVER talks about.

I’m 23 and I feel old and alienated from this new generation of kids. I internet a plenty and I have no idea who these people are. I found out who Nash Grier was (big teen vine star) a while ago but then I saw Dancing with the Stars and there’s this kid everyone is freaking out about. Turns out it’s Nash Grier’s brother. What the what?
