    My RA in college told us once that she had gone on a date with a Harvard guy and she was feeling very insecure about the whole thing. So she decided if there was a lull in the conversation, she would ask “So, have you read any Ionesco lately?”

        I think, I think, he means that he enjoys reading the books but doesn’t like how Proust is such a Revered Yet Difficult Author that it’s now impossible to experience Proust without buying into the mythology, to a certain extent, and how any conversation about In Search of Lost Time inevitably devolves into a conversation about how you’re having a conversation about In Search of Lost Time (case in point: this article).
