Why’s everyone acting like this guy’s story isn't plausible? I distinctly remember back in 1994 hearing about a dogg rolling down the street, smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice.

ran a red light. In the process of fleeing the officer, Cooper allegedly drove into one ditch, overcorrected, drove through another ditch, and then into a nearby home. Then he took off.

Why are we calling shit like this an accident? ‘Accident’ evacuates responsibility from the situation. Crash or collision are at least value-neutral. Red light violations, crashing into houses, and then fleeing the scene is not an accident, it’s a deliberate choice.

Nope. Accident implies intent, not fault. I’m sure his intent was not to crash his car into a house, but it was certainly his poor decisions that led to it happening.

The other day I tried to be a hero and carry all the grocery bags into the house in one trip — even though I know full well that Trader Joes bags have a habit of breaking off at the handle when too stressed — so of course the bag fell apart on the stairs and my food went everywhere. It was 100% my fault, and despite the fact that it was obvious and inevitable that it was going to happen, it was still an accident. It was not my intent to spill ~$45 worth of groceries, even if it was a dumb move.

TL;DR: The term “accident” implies lack of intent of the outcome, not fault.

In “insurance speak” and “legalese” no they are not “accidents.” But then again neither is a brake failure and you running into the back of someone by definition.

Accident has become a generally accepted word to describe an incident where any blame has not yet been directed. And even then, sometimes it’s just used to describe the incident. IE: That guy was drunk and caused the accident.
So basically you are right, but rarely are people that pedantic where it bothers them that much. Then again this is the internet. But incident is the official term, not collision or crash.
I also wouldn’t call it a deliberate choice. Sure there were choices made that were contributing causes. But to say deliberate? That’s a bit of a stretch.

When reached for comment, the dog’s lawyer stated that the dog suffered from a medical emergency, having choked on Mr. Cooper’s homework.

Kudos to the guy for having the presence of mind to pull a Ben Carson: “Hello, officer. May I direct your attention to my dog? I believe he’s the one you want.”
