Maybe if we’re lucky, next year will see Kara in front of the Shade Court backdrop, captioned

    “Mama’s coming back,”

I’ll keep a candle lit in that window. This is so distressing.

Oh no! Are you leaving Jezebel entirely, or just handing over the Shade reins to someone else? Don’t leave us!

I should say that the enthusiasm from you all is largely what kept me trucking along for almost an entire year. That and E! Online.

Kara, I’ve been meaning to ask you if something is shade for the longest time. Since it’s your last day and all, please don’t leave me hanging! Here goes:

My friend was sort of seeing a guy for a couple of months. She really liked him, but he was SUPER flakey. Like they would plan a date and she would show up and like an hour later, he would text her being like “sorry, did I forgot to tell you I’m on the other side of the state?” So eventually they just kind of fizzled out and then like six months later, totally out of the blue, he sent her a novel of a Facebook message going on and on about how he hadn’t treated her right and she deserved better and he hoped he could one day make it up to her. I swear this is the longest FB message I have ever seen in my life.

So she, in what I consider a totally baller move and is maybe shade?, responds back with a simple, “Thank you for the kind words.” And that’s basically the end of them talking.

      Is this shade? Please advise.

As a devout follower of Shade Court, and as we’ve had no response from the illustrious Judge Brown, I’d like to chime in.

Consider: the true definition of shade, which Judge Brown repeated at the start of the article

Shade is I don’t tell you you’re ugly but I don’t have to tell you because you know you’re ugly ... and that’s shade.

We all know that the guy was an asshole. We all know he treated her terribly. Your friend didn’t mention that, but we all know she deserved that attempt at an apology. However, she does not say anything about the much deserved apology. She doesn’t even acknowledge it, let alone accept it.

She only thanked him for his words - which was all he gave. Words, not actions. So the words were all that were kind, not him personally. So he’s still an asshole, but his words were nice. And then she dropped the mic.

I conclude that this is shade. Any agreement/dissent?

We knew it would happen one day. Shade court appointments are for life, but life is finite.

I’m just glad you’re retiring under Obama. Hate to see who Hillary or, god help us, Trump would appoint.

Judge Brown, your time on the bench was groundbreaking and your contribution to jurisprudence cannot be overstated. I gift you this as a small token of my esteem. RIP Shade Court, you sweet, summer child.

That Mashable picture of Michael Fassbender as Jobs reminds me of Dieter and his monkey from SNL and hence has totally ruined Michael Fassbender for me!
