      Came here to say that. So triggering. I dunno. Just doesn’t seem like the right image to use, regardless of the image being available or not. There’s lots of stills of videos from other rapes or sexual assaults that were NOT used as the photo to the articles about them. Just weird that because the victim was male, they’re posting. And I never, ever say shit like that.

    This is an impressive sleight-of-hand, Sam, really it is—if I too were devoid of shame or a soul I might consider joining you at Gawker just to marvel at your disgusting tactics. Let’s follow along:

    1) Post a short, possibly edited, clearly hidden camera video showing something “possibly” wrong (because that’s never blown up on you guys before)

    2) Repeat the slanderous assertion even after it has been disproven

    3) Straddle the line to keep the story “relevant”: this is the best part—if the sex act depicted in the video was consensual, then Gawker has no good reason for posting it and is admittedly violating 2 people’s privacy, and if it’s not, then Gawker is profiting off of footage of a rape, so call it “possibly non-consensual” to have your cake and eat it too (i.e., criticize frat based on spurious, discredited evidence while covering you ass against criticism that you are either (i) actively slandering and invading privacy or (ii) exploiting a rape for profit).

      Shutting this down was the right move.

      However, this statement:

      If this is something you are attempting to derive from the video itself, it’s bullshit. You have no idea what is happening in that guy’s head in those 29 seconds. Nothing is clear about it at all.
