Whatever. Biden doesn’t stand a chance if he enters the race at such a late date. As someone who’s run for the nomination twice, he should be well aware of that. I also don’t think he offers anything unique in this race. He’s more conservative than both Clinton and Sanders. Clinton is the establishment candidate and would represent a continuation of the Obama administration too. She’s been hoovering up all the endorsements and most of the money. Sanders already has been working the blue collar angle.

Clinton is terrified of Biden right now and you are out of your mind if you think this is too late. There are 13 months and 3 to go before the primaries. Biden is a likable sitting VP, and has 10x the charm. I don’t know who is going to win, but Biden is a VERY formidable opponent.

      LOL

I’m not the crazy one in this conversation, dude.

Biden is a likable sitting VP, and has 10x the charm.

I don’t disagree, but charm and likability don’t win nominations. Money and actual, on-the-ground campaigning do. Biden has no money and has done no campaigning so far. His hesitation in entering the race is probably going to be a mark against him for many delegates. It signals lack of enthusiasm.

I don’t know who is going to win, but Biden is a VERY formidable opponent.

      Based on what?

Like I said before, Clinton has a ton of endorsements right now. The list requires multiple scrolls down. So far, she’s raised $75 million and is probably on pace to get to $100 million. And she’s still has a big lead in the polls.

I also remind you that Biden has run for the Democratic nomination twice and lost both times. He didn’t even come close in 2008 when running against Clinton and Obama.

The Biden supporters are kidding themselves. He’s older and more conservative than Hillary, but he’s a man and seems like a good dude so that’s good enough for them. Gross.

A headline that starts out with "Turns Out Joe Biden Leaked" could head down a lot of worse paths than this one, so all in all I'm fine with this.

It’s a win win for joe really. Because if he doesn’t end up getting anywhere presidentially speaking— he’s always got a career hawking depends for men now.

I always just assumed that, because, who else would’ve leaked it?

I don’t particularly have a problem with leaking the story, as much as I have a problem with Joe Biden talking to fucking Maureen Dowd.

It’s only really a “leak” if it’s not supposed to get out right? In this case, it just sounds like a reporter asked Biden about his son’s death and/or his current state of mind and/or his political ambitions and he told her.

Way to try and gin up a salacious controversy but kind of a transparent effort.

Yeah, that’s sort of how I feel about it. I guess I can see it being a double edge thing, but if it’s what his son actually said then who cares if he told it to a reporter or not?

Leaks can be both wanted and intentional as well as unwanted and unintentional. The White House, for example, will often leak stories to push its agenda or show itself in a positive light.

To be fair, Beau also wanted Joe to hit two home runs in a World Series game, but Biden thought leaking that would be too much.

Supposedly Beau actually said “I know you don’t want to run, but we’ve got to get rid of that dirty Jew, Sanders.”

They are reporting on a story. Yeah they are bad, but it’s not like Biden leaked the info to them. He leaked the conversation to Dowd. Blech.

When you say, is Biden just using his son’s tragedy for his own benefit, is that an insinuation that the conversation might not have happened? I find it hard to believe that Beau Biden and Joe Biden would not have discussed him potentially running for President, even as he was dying. I don’t consider it a leak, I would have never assumed that Dowd talked to anyone else other than Biden or one of his top aides...but yeah, free advertising. If you suggest that Biden may take license in his storytelling... I think that is across the board.

Also, f*ck glioblastoma, and it’s a shame that you don’t realize that this is Joe Biden’s tragedy too, not just his son’s.

Because I think more realistically, a man on his death bed has a better visualization of what is really important in life. I think the conversation was more like, “Dad, give up politics and go fishing - you always wanted to go fishing more - why willfully abandon yourself to the soul-crushing job of being president.”

As both a father and a son, that’s the first thing I thought of when I read this article a few weeks ago.

Joe Biden doesn’t have hobbies (other than stealing chicks from biker gangs), does he? If he fishes, I think its for show. Politics and personal legacies were the primarily shared passions of Beau and Joe. The point they are talking about isn’t deathbed either (I get it that Dowd’s article paints it that way). I believe the discussion, but I get that old school political-artistic license is used to retell it.

Joe Biden has wanted to be president his entire adult life. If his dying son did validate that ambition, I don’t see why he wouldn’t mention it, because I think it really did change his calculus. I think he was ambivalent about running, and he still is. But, that ambition never went away, and his son stoked that fire. Perhaps enough to turn a conflicted “no” into a conflicted “yes.”

No, but prior to guests going on talk shows, they ask the guests if there is anything interesting they would like to discuss. And they came up with "So, Joe, tell us about Beau passing away. And are you going to run for President?"

I have no problem with it actually. The Colbert spot was good. The perceived rub here is the timing.
