Also from the Joe Biden Line of Super Hilarious Funnies:

“A rabbi, a priest, and a lawyer all walk into a bar. They don’t know each other and spend a pleasant evening with their respective companions, without interacting. Also the priest was embezzling from his parish and spent ten months in prison, but the lawyer in this story didn’t represent him.”

The rabbi had a brother that did though? Gotta fit the rabbi in there somewhere.

So a Rabbi is in a life boat after a great flood in his neighborhood. While he is in the lifeboat, a speed boat approaches him. And he recognizes that in the speed boat, Father Stan from the local Polish Catholic church is in the speed boat. Father Stan tells the driver to stop so they can rescue the Rabbi. The Rabbi says, “Thank you, God. I thought I was going to die.”

Maybe the chief of staff was correct about there not being a joke, and Kitty Kelley just thought the anecdote was funny?

Also, isn’t Kitty Kelley somewhat famous for making things up about JFK and Jackie?

She is famous for essentially reporting gossip about numerous famous people, most of which is nothing but cocktail party gossip.

I vaguely remember a story about someone claiming Jackie O had electric-shock therapy... and that she was the one who reported it. Sounds like it’s probably the same person.

To be fair, from this account it appears Biden was relaying the racism of someone else, and doing so to make a point about the backwardness of a county in Delaware.

    And Delaware is pretty backwards.

My mother in law had a 50 states’ puzzle as a kid and apparently once had to be rushed to the hospital with Delaware up her nose.

That’s more of an anecdote about other people’s anti-semitism than a joke of his own. I’m confused what I’m supposed to find egregious about this.

Wait, he was holding Mick Jagger? Did you mean “mike”? As in, short for microphone? Also spelled “mic” but never, ever “Mick”?

Who knows, maybe he had just watched the Godfather Part 2 before the incident. “The old man had too much wine,” as Michael would say.

If you want me to get upset about a joke or a comment from 1974, then it had better be egregious for 1974 standards.

Eh. If he’d said something anti-Semitic, it would bother me whether anti-Semitism was considered bad at the time or not.

But he didn’t—he told a story about meeting a racist, where the funny bit was how ignorant said racist was. The only anti-Semitism came from the guy the story was mocking, and the story was mocking him specifically for that reason. There's really no there there.

Hmmm...looks to me like somebody else made the “joke”. While, yes, Uncle Joe should’ve chastised the person for saying “dirty Jew”, I can’t fault him too much.

But he’s just retelling a story that shows how hard it is to be Jewish in politics. It seems like it was worse to keep it off the record and suggest he was making antisemitic jokes in the original profile from the 70s.

I guess in the 70s it was better to that people think you are making antisemitic jokes than sympathizing with jewish politicians?
