Look, I know we all want to rush to judgment here but I’m guessing that, very reasonably, the man asked what those women were there for and they told him that they were there to cover a professional football team and he, quite rightfully, had to check if the Jaguars qualified.

When was the last time a male sports journalist was allowed to go in a women’s locker room?

This is not being sarcastic. I am actually curious. Google isn’t helping here.

When is the last time a women’s sport was covered with the depth and interest that even shitty men’s teams get?

Tennis is pretty up there. Soccer is getting up there too. And during the Olympics volleyball and gymnastics are all the rage.

So, when was the last time a male reporter interviewed one of the Williams sisters while she was in a locker room, wrapped in only a towel like her male counterparts are?

I want to know whose team staff denied them entry. Because until I know for certain I will assume it’s the Colts staff because that is something someone living in that backwards fuck-tard state would do. Also this is an organization that has a convicted druggier for an owner who was convicted of DUI but avoided jail time, and a WR who was involved in a shooting death but is still revered by the fanbase. They also tanked a season to get thier “star” QB. But they continue to try to play the victim, pushing the “Aw shucks” midwestern bullshit. They’re the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL and when the Pats smoke their asses again in two weeks they’ll blame Satan or the gays or some other bullshit. So if i’m wrong i’ll still hate the Colts for WhinyLoserGate, but give them a pass for this. Still sounds like something that ass-backwards organization would do.

It wouldn’t have been an official staffer for any team. It was just an paid-hourly security stiff hired by the stadium.

Woah, Pats fan. You really want to start calling Colts names? Really?

In addition to your cheating coach and star QB, I believe your team had a murderer on the roster.

I dunno. This seems like a bit of an overreaction to a small mistake.

They hired an older gentlman who has outdated views and didn’t pay attention during his training, so made a bad call. The team remedied the situation as soon as they could, and then apologized appropriately and publicly. But social media’s need for constant outrage turned a simple mistake into a shitstorm.

They hired some older Jacksonville guy to do a part-time job at the stadium, he’s old-fashioned and maybe a little sexist, his behavior was corrected. As long as he doesn’t do it again, it’s the little things like this that make change happen over the long-term, so we shouldn’t be angry still, right?

I think the buried lede here is that the reporter claims she has never before faced sex discrimination in her work? FOR REAL? Good for her I guess, but I have a hard time fully believing that.

I’ve had to go into a locker room to do a job before, and it fucking sucks because it’s gross and no Emmitt Smith, I do not want to see what your junk looks like so put your fucking pants on. I only name him because that asshole had a group of people standing around waiting to get a quote from him and he took his sweet fucking time getting dressed because he could.

But when you have to interview the road team, who leaves as soon as the athletes are done getting dressed and the only place you can interview them is in the locker room, you suck it up and get the job done. So until pro sports teams come up with a better idea, everyone (except the QB and coach in the NFL) get interviewed in the locker room.

So yeah, I’d be pissed if an usher told me I couldn’t do my job and then went and asked other men if it was ok.

I still find it odd to watch Eduardo Perez on ESPN because I saw his dick in the locker room after a spring training game. Also, after a different game while fully dressed he was kind of standoff-ish and may or may not have made fun of me in Spanish to the guy whose locker was beside his.

Okay, so the usher has apparently been living under a rock for decades since he was unaware that women reporters have been allowed in locker rooms for decades. However, I’m really not impressed with the ageism tweeted out by a couple of the reporters either. I guess these reporters have never encountered sexism from a young guy. What a blessed life they’ve led thus far.

That kind of stuck out to me too. Sounds like the guy is behind the times and misinformed, which is obviously a problem, but calling him an “old man” and a “geezer” in such a vitriolic way isn’t cool either.

I still feel that it’s odd ANY reporting or interviewing goes on in a locker room, TBH.

Honest question, no agenda, I promise - just legitimately curious. Are male journalists regularly allowed into the locker rooms of women’s sports teams?

Yes, but the rules are different.

At least where the WNBA is concerned, male journalists are allowed in female dressing rooms, but they’re restricted to 30 minutes while the players remain in uniform, then the men leave and the players can undress and shower in privacy.

Women are allowed to stay in male locker rooms until the last athlete leaves.

Personally, I think there should be no access to either room for anyone but players, coaches and staff, regardless of sex/gender. All players should be able to shower and dress in peace, and there should be a separate room, away from the locker rooms, for interviews.
