Assuming the fund was making investments in laser beam technology his background could have been very relevant. But since they seem to have bet everything on basically one spin of the roulette wheel, it seems like the only relevant experience would have been “prophet”

My guess is that they wanted to have someone on board who was intimately familiar with Itô calculus.

Are we sure Spruce Alpha didn’t primarily attract investors by naming their hedge after a hedge?

Seriously? I used to work as an engineer on a missile defense laser system, I wonder if I can get some rubes to throw money at me for hedge funding. I don’t know what that is exactly, but judging by the other guys performance I’m guessing that’s not important.

I understand what you do. Missile defense laser. Laser defense against missiles. Missile coming you shoot a laser at it.

But this guy was in laser defense missiles. Which would mean that it is a missile you shoot at an attacking laser. And that is just weird.

You could quite literally throw darts at a board and have as good a success rate

so, Wile E. Coyote, esq. started his own hedge fund?

        And it collapsed?

Did he order the ACME hedge fund starter kit?

The company’s boss made sure to emphasize the man’s credentials by using air-quotes around the word “laser,” while also wearing a gray jump suit. Also in attendance to really show the client they meant business was his top aid, Number Two.

$100M is a tiny fund. Clearly, the members of the other funds under management weren’t completely sold on the laser beam guy.

Yes, but were there Evil Sea Bass connected to the “Lay-Ser” Defense Missiles?
