Why was the original article such a big deal anyway? I would think a concussion in a millitary boxing class is preferable to death on the battlefield.

Tell that to the NFL... Anyway I think the difference is that you don’t expect to get concussed when you’re boxing but you do sort of expect to die on the battlefield.

For example: Would you rather slip on a banana peel and smack your head really hard or die in order to save a room full of cute babies and puppies?

As much as they would like to have you believe it, NFL players are not warriors.

playing down the mistreatment of soldiers with mental health issues

I’ve never met a military person who wasn’t fucked up in some deep way and they never get help even when it’s available because their career will come to a screeching halt if they do. It’s the perfect environment for abusive assholes to thrive in. And they do.

Basic training is all about deeply fucking the mind up in some very specific ways, but there is no equivalent program for people leaving the military so they can function normally again afterwards.

Yup. Basic training has always been about breaking people so that you can rebuild them how you want them to behave. If they don’t break they get kicked out more or less. I have friends and family that will attest to this.

At least it’s not as screwed up as it was during WWII and Vietnam.

Say what you will about timing of FOIA releases but Now Hear This Gawker: General Patty Horoho is the SINGLE MOST HONEST Military officer you will ever hope to meet. She is my personal hero for her courage she showed on 9/11 at the Pentagon running the triage at the crash site. She spent the last 14 years taking care of tens of thousands of our injured soldiers and she DOES NOT NEED TO MANIPULATE TBI info because that is NOT IN HER CHARACTER. If she released exculpatory reports instead of lesser data the so fucking be it. JFC, not everything is a conspiracy. Word. Out.

You don’t seem to be aware of this but a person can do a lot of really great things for a bunch of people and also do some shitty things to other people because their job demands it.

The Army Times seems like an impartial news source... I'd trust it!

The Army Times (and the Navy Times, Air Force Times, etc.) isn’t affiliated with the military.

Every time I see it on the newsstand at the PX, about half of the cover stories are about how some senior officer skated on criminal charges by retiring early, or how the military got some poor schmuck killed in a “training accident” and then tried to cover it up.
