    Apparently they don’t teach about the Holocaust in high school history anymore, or require the reading of the Diary of Anne Frank. I worry about the future of this country.

    I’m in my mid 20’s in the South, and I can count how many Jews I personally know on two hands. But I learned what that was in elementary school.

      It’s perfectly possible that a 20 something year old could know very well about Anne Frank and the Holocaust, but not be aware of the meaning of that particular image. They probably found that when searching for “star of David,” and wasn’t able to put it in context. It’s a completely reasonable mistake, even if it’s a huge one.

      True. In Illinois at least, they teach the Holocaust in eighth grade. And in Chicago, most classes go to the Holocaust museum in Evanston (which is so booked for school trips that it requires months of trying to find a date.)

      Not even. This is like:

      -a fire door opening on a back alley swings wildly open

      -the graphics intern is tossed bodily—body parallel to the ground, limbs cartwheeling—out the door

      -door slams shut

      -graphics intern lifts self off the ground and says something lame like, “You can’t fire me, I quit!”

      -door opens again

      -graphics intern is hit in the head and knocked down again as his Macbook—Google Image search for “Star of David” still on screen—is thrown at him
