Too bad they couldn't have done like the Anne Frank house chestnut (now fallen) and grow saplings from it. The babies from Anne’s tree are all over the world now!

Short of that I would put in a robust replacement. In a few years it will give visitors an idea of the tree that was there, and in a few decades it will provide the shade that would have inspired Helen’s picnic.

Aw that's such a sweet thing for them to do. I love that.

The Anne Frank tree was so beautiful! I used to live in that area of the city, and people where petitioning for years to save it. A bit ridiculous, because the tree was poisoned because of oil that had leaked in the ground or something, so it was dying anyway. They put up a sort of framework to keep it upright, but it fell over in a storm earlier this year :(

It’s terrible losing an old tree. For a while my family were very worried about our 100+ year old oak that is only 20 feet from my parents’ house because its entire canopy turned brown one summer, but fortunately we were able to find a talented botanist who was able to save it.

Oh, that was smart of your parents to call in an expert before whatever was ailing the tree became too advanced!

In my old neighborhood, there was a 100+ year old cherry tree in a vacant lot; it was an unofficial dog and person park. People sat under it, stored their dog’s ball in the crooks of the branches, and just generally cared for the area. I came home one day and saw that it was ripped out to make way for a shitty cheap quadplex. I seriously cried.

I’m not saying that blind kids can’t enjoy trees. I’m saying that I’d be worried about leaving a blind kid in a tree unsupervised, you walnut.

I have a sads. :( I wonder how sick it was? Although trees do have a lifespan, you can do a lot to save a tree. Give them some help and they can bounce back. You have to find a true arborist, not a tree service, but it’s far cheaper than cutting it down.

          It’s sad to lose a tree. 🌳

Our farm near Fort Boonesboro in Kentucky - is situated on land that Daniel Boone may well have likely traveled. We have an Oak tree on our property that forestry has estimated at around 250 years old. She’s a rugged old girl. 🌳 Bless her.

From the area and have been to Ivy Green many times. Not many things to love about Tuscumbia, but that tree certainly was among them.
