I wish we lived in a nation where someone like him could actually become president, and not one where someone like Trump would be considered a viable candidate.

He really could, and that is not a fringe idea anymore. Look, the GOP lost the last two times because they didn’t appeal to the (now majority) non-white voters. They’ve only dug themselves deeper since then (Donald especially wouldn’t stand a chance in the general, and said he will split their vote if he’s not the candidate) so they have essentially guaranteed the general election to the Dems. All we have to do is make Bernie that candidate, and that’s becoming increasingly possible as the polls are showing.

Of course Sanders could be elected president. He’s already done the next hardest thing, getting elected to the Senate.

For shit’s sake, people, stop being a bunch of arrogant, know-it-alls. In 1975, nobody knew who the hell Jimmy Carter was, even early in ‘76. Eight months later he was elected President of the United States.

If you think Sanders, or Kasich, or Walker, or whoever can’t get elected because some pundit on TV says so, then you’re not as smart as you think.

I think he can’t get elected because he doesn’t have the money. America worships money so much that its the money that determines the elections. Its those 1%ers who pay congressmen to vote for things to keep them in the 1% and the rest of us useless slaves working for them and unable to earn enough.

As someone with a degree in this, I can honestly say it’s very difficult for him to get elected, but not impossible. Honestly, just getting people to vote is hard enough. Then getting them to actually care, and not show up, mark off whichever name looks most familiar.

Presidential elections have the highest turnout, but actual political participation is horrifically low.

Sadly, we’ll be lucky if half of the audience cheering him on actually goes out and vote for anybody on election day.

Yeah, that’s my worry too. I’m just not sure that the young people who came out for Obama are fired up enough to go out for anyone this round— especially people of color.

I live in Texas, surrounded by people that think Guns are the best thing ever and that the US is planning to occupy the state...Even though the US technically does occupy the state since it’s part of the US...anyway, I guess the point I’m trying to make is that Sanders appeals to regular folks everywhere. Hopefully he can appeal to enough people that we might win. America shouldn’t have to settle for second best or be forced to accept Trump.

    He won’t be elected president.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish that were possible. But a self-described socialist... it’d take a miracle, or someone like Trump getting the Republican Nomination (...so, a miracle either way) for him to both win the nomination and the general election.

Good odds of him being the VP to whoever does get the presidential nod. Probably Hillary at this point, because there’s so few Dems actually flippin’ interested in challenging her, but someone could get fed up with Hillary’s email shit and actually give her a more moderate challenger.

As a fellow self-described Democratic Socialist, I think that if anything, having Bernie on a national stage will actually serve to teach people what Socialism actually is, rather than just something used as a buzzword to incite fear. Right now, most people a) conflate Socialism and Communism, and b) are ignorant of exactly what both are.

I cannot even begin to express how refreshing that is.

I live in the xenophobic asshole of the Southwest - Phoenix, AZ - home of Sheriff Joe “Papers Please” Arpaio. I was there to see 12,000 turn out to hear Bernie preach his message. This can happen, he can win, if we only do one simple thing. Vote.

I was at the AZ Veterans Memorial Colliseum was filled for when then Senator Obama made his campaign stop during the 2008 primary. About 12,000 or so people then, too, if I remember correctly. Your right, if people just turn out to vote, then Sanders can win.

I was at a flea market in suburban Ohio last weekend and there was a booth that had campaign pins for all of the candidates on both sides. The guy working there said he couldn't print Bernie pins fast enough. His pins were by far the most popular. I think Sanders has more support than people give him credit for. Granted, I live in a very pro-labor part of the state.

That may not matter much right now, but in the general election, when the scrutiny is turned up high, it will matter.
