    WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKING SHIT

My friend’s fiancé was once like ‘Hohoho, if you rape a prostitute, is it rape or shoplifting, hohoho’ and I practically shouted ‘It’s rape, sex with someone who does not or cannot consent is rape, please stop talking immediately’.

I had the same discussion online with some idiot Chicago Blackhawks fans when Patrick Kane was accused of rape. I said it would be theft if she consented to sex and he just didn’t pay—although not enforceable as such because payment for sex (prostitutuon) is illegal. However, rape is rape—the definition doesn’t change because of one’s occupation.

Unfortunately, the way this case is being handled makes it look like sex trafficking is a legitimate business.

Through what tortured reasoning is it possible to draw this conclusion from “he raped her at gunpoint”?

If anything, it’s Mitchell who goes on to treat sex work as if it’s legal there, calling this violent and terrifying rape “theft of services.”

How does any newspaper wind up with an editor so utterly incapable of the most basic critical thought?

It’s a logic sort of on par with “Because in certain situations Banks will let you have money, robbing a bank is essentially just disagreeing on the repayment terms of a loan”.

But there’s nothing about that that legitimizes anything, so... nah, I’m not seeing it.

I don’t think there IS an analogy, because it didn’t make any sense to begin with.

Oh well fuck this prissy bitch.

I’m officially done with today, and it’s only 1pm. Like, I am so annoyed with this I can’t even be bothered to write a bunch of analogies that demonstrate why this is ADFLFSLDJADSFOJAWEIASGKASDKLDFKN.

So instead I’ll finish watching season one of In Treatment, during the course of which I’ve decided that contemporary Gabriel Byrne looks like a cross between Keith Richards and William Butler Yeats.

It’s tough to see this unidentified prostitute as a victim.

I really hope to see some good letters to the editor about this one, from people associated with groups such as RAINN, anti-trafficking organizations, and those that represent sex workers. If she thinks prostitutes can’t be victims, she’s clearly unaware of how many of them are being trafficked or were victims of sexual abuse.

I'm not sure how your last sentence matters. Are those who have not been abused or trafficked not also victims if something bad happens?

A part from the fact that’s is obviously wrong from a basic human emapthy point of view, I feel there is a logical flaw in her reasonning : Nothing would make prostitution as legitimate business more than prosecuting the guy just for theft, as then the prosecution would be focused on the “not paying for the service” part, not on the actual human being. So I don’t see where she sees minimizing sex trafficking...

By that logic shouldn’t any woman raped during a date be at fault since she placed herself in a situation with the possibility of ending in sex?

Like I’m just baffled by this. What an idiot.

By this logic, yes of course they are at fault. I thought this “logic” was the behind whole problem of sexual assault at colleges and the like.

Although this case even goes a step further, since it implies that sex-workers (or sexuality itself) are only objects instead of human beings.

Just to make it clear, the woman is always at fault, except for this scenario-

Sally the Virgin was at church one Sunday with her parents, wearing a modest dress and sitting with her knees together, when a complete stranger ran into the church and abducted her. She put up a mighty struggle because she would rather be killed than raped. Both of those things ended up happening to Sally.

By the way, Sally is definitely white.

      The End.

Sally- not at fault. Everyone else- asking for it.
