    Awwwies.

When I first went to college, neither of my parents asked for the school’s address, and even months later, my mother couldn’t name the school I went to. So don’t mind me while I’m sitting here moping around over what a loving parent looks like.

x2. I went to a college on the other side of the state, and didn’t hear from my mom once until I called her to let her know I was dropping out because the west side of Michigan is AWFUL (4 months of endless snow, ice, and grey skies (also my first Thunder Snow) exacerbated my depression). Then I didn’t hear from her for another year until her life went to shit and decided she should pretend to care about me.

Then my father stopped speaking to me after helping me move my furniture into my new apartment because I, the 19 y/o, had a boyfriend living with me and must have been having The Sex. I’m 27 now and he still refuses to speak to me.

I’ll just drink my coffee and pretend Obama is my real dad.

My mom came up north with me for college move in. I was living in a non-coed brownstone (campus housing). When I got back after my first day she was sitting on the front stoop with milk and cookies. All the guys from the brownstone next door were loitering. She invited them over, and just like that I had my first group of friends. It was a pretty good story but if Obama did it for Malia...

I’ve seen my father cry twice in my life- once at my grandfather’s funeral and when they dropped me off at college. He mumbled something and walked away and then later sent me a letter saying it was too hard for him to say goodbye.

    DADS.

My dad cried when I finally moved away from home and when I saw the tears and I cried even more because that man didn’t even cry at his mother’s funeral, and he LOVED his mom. I was 30 years old.

Yep. Once when he told me the family dog died (it was his dog more than anyone else’s) and once when they left me at college. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

All I could think looking at this pic is that, now that Malia is off to college and Sasha is too old to be cute, The Obamas will be introducing a cute, mischievous cousin next season.

His greatness as President is debatable, his greatness as a dad is not.

I hope he’ll be the type of former president that does more good after his terms (like Jimmy Carter). I could see it happening.

Absolutely. I won’t try to claim that Obama has made all perfect decisions or used all perfect judgment during his administration, but he clearly wants to do what’s best for the American people. A large part of his problem in getting things done has been the insane amount of opposition from Congress. Once he’s no longer President, Congress will no longer be a problem. (For him. Congress will still be a huge problem for the rest of us, unfortunately.)

My baby sister started college 2 weeks ago. The whole family moved her into her dorm, lingered longer than we should have and cried. I’ve visited her once (took her shopping and bought her a ton of snacks at my moms request because she looked “skinny”). My parents have visited. Her twice already. TWO WEEKS. We are ridiculous people.

That’s adorable! I went to college 2,000 miles from home, so I only visited at semester breaks, but my mom and I called each other every Sunday night, without fail. We talk for at least an hour, and routinely text/Facebook each other in between. If the time differences work out, we even manage a three-person Google Hangout with my big sister. Being those people is pretty great.

I’d love to see the group of Frat Bros who will dare hang up some banners and shit about “daughter daycare” and “we’ll take it from here, dad” when Malia goes to college.

I’d also love to see the group of Frat Bros would try some bullshit with a freshman who walks around under armed guard, and whose father commands a literal fleet of killer robots and the most invasive and far-reaching surveillence apparatus in the history of humanity.

Maybe, like Zoe Bartlett, she will get to date some adorable guy who looks suspiciously like Dule Hill.

Hopefully she does not (like Zoe Bartlett), end up hanging out with some douche member of European royalty who gives her party drugs (because we all know how well that turned out...)

Totally get this. It seems like yesterday that we brought our bundle of joy home, put her in the crib, and said to each other, “Now what?”

We just saw her off to start grad school in Chicago. Where the HELL did all the time go?

My son is in sixth grade and I feel like this. He’s almost as tall as me. And he was such a little thing when he was born.
