Quick question from a Brit here:

Why do your news stations have such strange names?

Over here our regional stations are usually named after the region e.g. ITV Westcountry or BBC’s Look North.

The station call signs are more or less meaningless. A W as the first letter means it is east of the Mississippi, while a K means it is west of it.

That the GOP condemns Anthony Wiener for a couple of inappropriate pics whilst coddling a diaper-wearing prostitute chaser tells you all you need to know about the Republican Party.

Probably because every fucking GOPer has some weird sexual history. You denounce one and he will undoubtedly out a few of his comrades. Republicans hate each other only a bit less than they hate the Dems.

The difference is that Jesus forgave David Vitter for having sexy diaper times with a prostitute who wasn’t his wife but he couldn’t possibly forgive Anthony Wiener because he’s Jewish and, well, Our Lord Christ has been none too happy with them since the whole crucifixion fiasco.

Doesn’t matter. If he wasn’t thrown out when it happened 8 years ago, and hasn’t been voted out since, then it won’t hurt him now. Those yokels will vote for anyone who’s not a soshulist Obama-lover.

Louisiana, hands down, has the biggest shit sandwiches for politicians. I feel like they don’t garner as much national spotlight because a lot of their damage is just local. The politicians here can bounce back from scandal after scandal. I am from Texas, South Carolina, and Georgia (pretty evenly divided throughout my childhood), and now I have lived in Louisiana for 8 years. I pay close attention to local politics and all of those states and seriously, Louisiana. Seriously.

Well shit, the dude’s camp said that pulling ad funds is 1000% false, so accordingly to my back of the envelope calculations using political math, it must be 100% true.

People that work for local news affiliates: How much field leeway would you have in general?

My impression from a couple friends is that most of the time is in the newsroom or out in the field on specific assignments with specific goals. Just wondering if this is generally true or if you’d be able to go off script like they appear to be accusing this reporter of doing.

Generally no, individual reporters are not supposed to go rogue, especially with such a sensitive political story. The question is, was the subject discussed in the morning editorial meeting? Was the assignment desk aware that he was going to goon this guy and ask this question? Was he actually assigned the story at all? If not, then he’s probably out of luck.

Would “going rogue” (oh...Sarah Palin, you’ve ruined that phrase for me forever) be a firable offense? Let’s say it was politically sensitive but not the threat of ad-withdrawal, could that be firable?

Luke Bolar, a spokesman for Vitter’s gubernatorial campaign, told the Advocate that the campaign did not raise the issue of pulling its advertising, calling Myers’ claim “1,000 percent false.”

Whenever someone says “1000% false” I know they are lying. It's like a Maury Povich DNA testing show...

calling Myers’ claim “1,000 percent false.”

“Then there’s Louisiana Sen. David Vitter (R), a self-styled family values conservative who in 2007 admitted to having been a client of the infamous “D.C. Madam,” Deborah Jeane Palfrey”

            lmao
