This kid is a disgusting sociopath. Also, how fucking lame is the ‘divine inspiration’ excuse? Come on, dude.

Also, I can’t figure out if Jezebel has a tip line or not, but check this shit out: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-...

NPR piece today on Trigger Warnings suggested that Universities just use a blanket "Going to Uni may present some challenges to your beliefs." FFS. What have we become?

“When talking to police about the allegation, Curtin said, Labrie often sidetracked conversations to mention his accomplishments in school. He sent her his college essay, and at one point asked, “Do you know anything about me?”

You mean, like you’re a rapist? Do you know anything about your victim aside from the fact that you saw her as a sexual object whose sole purpose in the world was to gratify your desires and ego? Do your accomplishments mask your failings, while the acts of women are erased every day by their perceived inadequacies? Oh the rage...

The part was just a complete WTF. Who sends a detective their college essay? A rapist apparently. So creepy.

The alleged victim previously testified that she tried to be “as polite as possible” to Labrie

This is heart breaking. This is one of the side effects of gender roles, that we force on young girls, they MUST be POLITE. They don’t want to be OFFENSIVE. So much so that this girl, was trying to be polite WHILE BEING RAPED. Poor child. Really truly this makes me so so sad. I’m gonna go look at puppies and sob.

This, to me, is also why it’s so easy for victims to blame themselves. Who’s going to believe the reason you didn’t “try harder” or whatever is because you were afraid of being rude? And yet it happens all the time. Social status is the currency of the age, so you don’t want to be on people’s bad side. Not just with rape. With creepy guys in bars and restaurants and on busses. You’re navigating a world wondering how to disarm people while being as polite as possible because someone has already demonstrated to you that they don’t think your opinion of your time or space matters when compared to their own.

His account grossly contradicts what his friends said on the witness stand. Four of them stated that he told them he had in fact had sex with her and got to that point by pulling “every trick in the book”. Divine inspiration indeed, his friends decided to tell the truth.

His friends testified today too, and he was bragging about having sex with her to them.

    So we have:

    -the testimony of his victim

-the testimony of his friends (backed up with Facebook messages, etc for proof)

-the DNA evidence of semen inside of her

-his own emails to her, worried that the condom broke

He’s trying so hard to deny they had sex at all that even IF it was consensual and he hadn’t assaulted her, no one will believe him because the defense’s energy is all being funneled into avoiding the statutory charge. He’s a lying liar.

And he has a statistically good chance of getting off anyway. :/

Honestly, who has more incentive here to lie? The victim, the friends, or him??

Affluenza, divine inspiration, a misunderstanding of what constitutes consent, and a resemblance to Jason Schwartzman in Rushmore.

[Curtin] said he acknowledged putting a condom on during a “consensual encounter.” However, Labrie told the detective he abruptly left the girl after a moment of “divine inspiration.”

This. This problem. If you’re not polite, you’re a bitch who risks escalation and the violence that results is your fault. If you’re polite, you were a pushover who didn’t send clear enough signals so it’s your fault.

Ugh, yes. I went out for drinks last weekend and some dudebro came in and started grabbing the shoulders of various women (myself included) and was aggressively massaging them—- just briskly going from woman to woman doing that. I was in shock when it happened to me and just stood there, mouth agape. A little later I thought “fuck this nonsense” and I looked him straight in the eye and flat out said “You CANNOT do that—- That is not alright. Don’t EVER touch me without my permission.” My friends (one being a woman) could not understand the “fuss” but I am fucking tired of feeling like I’m inconveniencing society by calling people, many of them men, out of their unacceptable behavior. Let HIM be the one to feel uncomfortable.
