    This is not okay.

As the parent of a little girl who trains in a gym with mostly male coaches, you trust these people; they become family. And my kid is only 6 and not even on a team yet (but she loves it so we are there all of the time) Sheesh! I already implicitly trust the men who have, quite frankly, intimate contact with my child. She is little - they pick her up, twist her body, form it the way she needs to be.

    This is not okay.

Lesson 1 of parenting, don’t trust strange or familiar men around your child, boy or girl. I’m not a parent but my little sister was molested by an uncle (by marriage, thank god). My grandma advised my mother not to call the cops and that my sister (who was 10 at the time) wouldn’t remember by the time she got married. Stay the entire practice and drive yourself to any out of town tournaments. What took you years to mould and ripen can be dashed and destroyed by a depraved pervert in a heartbeat.

Pretty much. I did check-ins with my daughters about their own uncles, fathers, stepdads, etc. until they reached majority. Trust, but within parameters. As a teacher, I make sure not to put myself in positions where impropriety could be alleged. It was actually the first day of school and I took a kid home in my car. She got in the back seat, the furtherest away from me. I ain’t playing that “no-no touch” shit. Anybody who works with children LIKES children. So any person who likes children that much is suspect. Controversial? No. I ain’t playing.

So shocking that a man whose career depends on starving young girls into amenorrhea and delayed puberty while watching them prance in leotards and take spills during which a 3-inch strip of fabric covers their vulvas would have pedophilic proclivities. Shocking, I tell you.

Not just creepy, but dangerous and unhealthy. The potential for injury —- either accidental, or from starvation, or from having one’s growing body twisted and stretched like that is high. Gymnastics has been fetishized ever since Nadia Comaneci wowed the audiences with her pigtailed image. It captivated young girls, understandably, with the gracefulness and daring, but unfortunately, some men as well. I guess I’m fortunate that my daughter was taller than her teacher by age 8 and had not the slightest interest in gymnastics. When I was young, I danced ballet, and that was extremely strenuous too, but I loved the classical music and the stories. After it became clear that I was going to be over 5’ 10” I was given my walking papers. But our teachers were retired female ballet dancers. No males at all in that world. I guess things change. Why would a man want to teach little girls gymnastics anyway? There must be scads of retired female gymnasts by now?

This guy fancies himself a photographer. Here’s a link to his photo page on his website. Some of the pics are a little creepy if you ask me...

Yep. That is the face of a weird fucking person right there.

I mean, the profession is literally about taking every day to scream at young children until they decide to contort their bodies in unnatural ways.

I’m back home in Indiana visiting from my home on the West Coast and people are flipping the fuck out about this here...like more than normal.

I think it’s the gymnastics aspect...

It might be, but we just got through the Jared the Subway guy under-age scandal. I'd say that's put a cob in a lot of asses around here.

Shit like this just instills fear in me for my niece. She is active already and sure to want to do something sports-related when she’s old enough. You do your best to surround your kid with safe, nuturing adults but look at this guy - he conceivably would be considered ‘the best of the best’ in terms of coaches and look at these charges on him right now. Especially when said child is on the path toward Olympic dreams - they may not have felt comfortable telling anyone for fear of losing their chance and disappointing people. :/

Makes me glad I never wanted kids, even before my anxiety got bad, let me tell you. I would never survive parenting, heh.

If she’s doing team sports, just tell her to never go anywhere without another mate! Those practices are typically out in the open and with large groups of people around. But if the coach asks her to stay after, just remind her that she has to wait for a parent OR have a friend with her. She’ll be fine!

ABC reporting that they raided his home Sunday night, searched it for 8 hours and then arrested him this morning.

That does not look good for him.

If Law Enforcement arrested him that soon, they found something. Most search warrants aren’t fishing expeditions, but very pinpoint in what they are exactly looking for...

I have 4 children. I’ve never left any of them in a situation where they were alone with another adult that wasn’t one of us. Nobody has a valid excuse to be alone with your child.

I’m pregnant and I think I might just try and keep the little thing in there permanently. Seems reasonable.
