I’m thinking that the “Gingers” should band together and exile Ms. Gibson.

Or maybe that’s too big of an ask.

This hurts my ears. Is this standard English phrasing?

Yes. “An ask” is a somewhat old neologism, perfectly acceptable in many circles. It’s just short for “a thing to ask for.”

Okay, I just got back from vacation and had to drive a few hours from there straight to work, so I’m still in vacay mode, plus it’s a Monday morning, so maybe that’s why I’m having some trouble with this. Could somebody explain to me how that job description translates to “hot female reporter who fucks sources for tips”?

I was thinking that as well. I took it as ‘tenacious reporter of the female variety wanted. Not interested in fluffy talking head’.

And oh how I wish they had made the House of Cards Season One female reporter more like the original in the UK version. Which is brilliant, if you haven’t seen it.

Yes, I took it as that, plus a little of “someone who has knowledge of some of the scuzzier things going on, or has sources who might be able to give you some info on the hidden side of politics”. Then again, I haven’t seen that show (either season, or either version), so I could just be totally missing something. I’m not big on political type drama shows, but I may check it out now that I realize it has so many fans.

The description is offensive on several fronts - first to women, then to journalism. It’s obvious that they’re looking more for gossip than real investigative reporting.

could they really not find a real female reporter woman they respected enough to want a candidate to emulate?

Is Zoe Barnes considered widely to be an offensive stereotype of a journalist?

Clearly this job ad is making offensive assumptions. Any job description that hints at using sex as a news-gathering tactic is sleazy as heck.

But Zoe herself: is it fair to call her offensive? She strikes me as far more complex than just a character stereotype.

Zoe as a character may or may not be offensive, but to use her as a job description implies this manager wants their employee to do her job the way Zoe did hers. The way Zoe got her information was by sleeping with a politician - implying that that is what you want your employee to do is definitely offensive.

She was more complex than a stereotype, but her methods on that show were (to this reporter) really offensive.

While yes, the ad is disgusting, perhaps there is a DC escort who would like to jump careers. And an escort would for sure know about the underbelly of the political process.

So someone at Rare.us has a pretty weird voyeur fetish and wants to hear about a female coworkers getting it on with some gnarly old men?
