“The bottom line is we don’t know what’s causing these deaths.”

    Don’t we?

Not necessarily, there is a lot that goes on in the ocean, global warming is only one factor, a large factor to be sure, but not the only one. I think of whale strandings have been tied to sonar technology.

I kinda hope it was something toxic and not related to sonar. The idea of torturing these intelligent animals to death is so much worse.

How would that kill the animal? Does it cause them to beach themselves and die or does it literally kill them? I've heard of it being an annoyance to animals but I didn't know it could kill them.

Probably Fukushima. Lots of die-offs in the Pacific since, like with all the melting starfish.

The starfish problem is a virus. They found that out a year ago.

Maybe some kind of gigantic air conditioned whale preserve, where they can add value performing for us while we eat ice cream. I’ll call it ‘seaworld’.

And it could be a “reality series” with one of the whales being a serial killer.

I suspect ocean acidification. Perhaps the whales are so sensitive to the pH balance that if it gets out of whack they get confused and beach themselves?

In any case, they surely make a tasty smorgasbord for local bears.

I’d guess not, only because mammals tend to be way less sensitive to that kind of thing than invertebrates and fish, and whales migrate through less alkaline waters like estuaries all the time. The algal bloom makes more sense to me, since that contaminates the water with a potent neurotoxin that tends to kill almost everything.

The whales are dying off. When that cylindrical whale probe shows up, we are so screwed if Kirk and friends don’t get that slingshot move right.

Occasionally nature fills the oceans with plastic and sewage and various waste. Nothing anybody can do about it.
