Is it possible to secretly in vitro? One of my besties did it and was a blubbering mess for months while she injected herself like three times daily to prepare. Her husband knew. I knew. The mailman probably knew.

I’ve done in vitro once and while it involved a series of visits and shots, I probably could hide it. The day of the egg extraction and the subsequent implantation were pretty tiring and required rest for the day, but if you had your days free, you could likely keep it secret.

Anything is possible, of course, but it does seem unlikely, doesn’t it? Unless they weren’t living together, in which case the daily shots and frequent appointments probably wouldn’t have been noticed. (Or unless they hadn’t progressed to that stage, yet.)

This story just sucks. And says a lot about an area of the law that leaves LGBT+ people legally unprotected. Your partner can’t adopt a baby you carry until the baby is born, so unless your partner happens to be male and the baby’s biological father, you have no legal recourse if they change their mind and decide to bounce mid-pregnancy, even if they were 100% on board, participated in planning the pregnancy and had every (stated) intention of co-parenting.

Would this not also be true of the partner, male or female, of any woman who is impregnated via IVF with a baby not genetically related to her partner? (I’m assuming if Brittney claims she had no idea Glory was pursuing IVF that neither of the twins has her genetic material.) This strikes me as one of the areas around ART and law that hasn’t yet been settled, rather than an intrinsically LGBT issue.

In a lot of states the men in married het couples have presumptive paternity even where IVF is involved, which doesn’t exist for LGBT couples, even if they’re married. It varies by state, but the protection is much weaker for same-sex couples, married or not.

I honestly do not understand this entire situation. They broke up, got married, simultaneously broke up and conceived twins. I hope Griner can prove that she was taken advantage of (if that is indeed the case, who knows) because I have a very strong feeling that AZ will slap child support on her for sure otherwise.

“I got taken advantage of” is generally not a viable defense to discharge child support obligations. Otherwise every dude would argue “she said she was on the pill!”

There is a difference between “I was on the pill” and “I did in-vitro behind my partner’s back with the expectation that she’d be cool with it later.”

So, basically, Glory was cheating on Brittney with a dude and got pregnant with his kid?

It sounds like Glory was doing IVF. I don’t think the kids are the paramour’s.

Sure, but then why would they break up the day after they announced the pregnancy?

This is just messy and sad. The producers of Say Yes to the Dress edited them really well apparently because they seemed like a cute couple. A lot of people on that show just come across as entitled jerks.

Maybe. Or maybe they were just feeling really happy and in love that day. Even shitty, dysfunctional relationships have their good days. If they didn’t, people wouldn’t stay in them for as long as they do.

I don’t know anything about these two really, but the one with the dreads is totally my “type”. >_> She’s gorgeous.

They’re pro basketball players. The gal with the dreads is Brit. She was a dunking sensation during her college years at Baylor. WNBA champion, Wade trophy, Div I champ. She’s hella talented, but she has a temper and has trouble not being a bit of an asshole with it.

So... the twins aren’t a result of an affair? Or are? I thought that’s why Brittney filed for an annulment.

I feel like this should be very easy to sort out. My partner and I are in the early stages of trying to get pregnant and my doctor and family sure as shit know we’re in this together.

28 days, good grief! Way to buck the “lesbians bring a U-Haul on the 2nd date” stereotype.

In all seriousness though, this is really unfortunate. Anybody who’s been through ugly relationship drama hates to see another couple go through this kind of shit. Hope they can both move on and be happy in the future.

As someone who has gone through five rounds ... how could Griner not know Johnson was undergoing in vitro? It is an all-consuming, time-intensive process. Unless they have invented an “express” version in the sixteen years since I did it ...

It could have been artifical insemination. People often confuse them.
