WHOA. This is weirdest, most fucked up story ever. Like how weird that this guy is even “famous” in the first place. And then to be part of something so over-the-top insidious. I have to wonder, is there some significant overlap between the personality traits that lead one to stardom and the ones that lead one to commit wildly inappropriate acts/crimes? Entitlement? Narcissism? Megalomania? Because this seems to happen a lot with public figures...or maybe we just hear about it more because they’re...public figures.

Also, were these children being trafficked?! The plea deal seems way too lenient to me, even if he’s about to flip on the other dude. He has to have made more than $1.4 million from his Subway endorsements (it’s been what nearly 20 years?) Take it all.

Drew Pinsky (“Dr. Drew”) actually wrote a fairly interesting book called “The Mirror Effect” about how people who are clinical narcissists are both attracted to and made worse by fame and celebrity. I think you’ve hit on something there — the qualities that make people want to be famous are also the qualities that make people negligent of others’ well-being, to a greater or lesser extent.

Bear with me here, but the evil is in them and would likely have come out anyway no matter what is in their pockets. The money and fame just make them feel more entitled to it, I imagine. Just like people have a tendency towards low self-esteem when things go poorly, this guy kept being rewarded despite what he was privately doing. That would twist a person’s sense of morality and right vs. wrong in the world. Think of Cosby’s preaching about how to be a good person while doing something he knew was lawfully wrong. That’s why child celebrities are often such distorted humans with so many issues—their sense of self and normality wasn’t even developed when they began to be fawned over.

Weird. Obviously the government had him dead to rights, so why offer a plea? Is he part of a larger conspiracy and assisting the government in exchange for a better deal?

Probably to spare his victims a trial. Dude goes to jail and the victims don’t have to relive everything.

Is it really so hard to figure put? He's a white man. Black people get life in prison for a joint, this guy molested 14 minors and he gets a deal???

5-12 years for molesting 14 underaged kids. Fuck.

That’s less time than some drug dealers are in jail for, ffs. And people wonder why some parents snap and take the law into their own hands - you clearly can’t trust the justice system to give a fair penalty when a person pulls this shit.

Of course, we get to add ‘child escorts’ to this horrible story which makes it even fucking worse.

There’s already people in the (grey) comments here stating that because the children were “prostitutes,” they cannot have been raped as it is “their job,”
      I’m hyperventilating.

Of course they are, because those kids clearly /want/ to be prostitutes and aren’t child slaves that were forced into the life to survive.

Taylor sent Fogle photos of and videos from hidden cameras in Taylor’s house, featuring children as young as 6.

Cripes. The treatment aspect of this plea deal is wholly necessary.

I really think we should push for a test of the German system of an anonymous hotline for pedo that want to try treatment. For me, for as long as they are not active, and young, we should try to help them regulate their urges.

Wow, holy fuck. What a scumbag.

Also 14 confessed counts of actual statutory rape of a child and possession of child pornography, and 5 to 12 years is it? Being rich in this country really does pay.

I’ve heard equally low sentences for people with no money. This is a crime that is not always taken very seriously.

I’d guess the fact that his victims were prostitutes had more to do with it than his money, to be frank.

I, too, would be interested in input from prosecutors and/or lawyers. How does someone run a child trafficking ring (in Manhattan, I surmise) in this day and age? Also, can someone enlighten us about the plea deal? Have you seen examples of this in the past? Or is this just a rich white-guy thing?

I really don’t see why we can’t all band together to vote for castration for offenders of this nature. And eye gouging. With local anesthetic, of course—we’re not animals.

For fucks sake cut the dick off too, and rip out their prostates. If they wanna try to orgasm to kids again, fine, but they’re gonna have to get really fucking creative about it. I don’t think that’s cruel and unusual, it’s not like you’re waterboarding them, or forcing them to eat Subway.

So wait. First off: There is not a blackhole of hell deep enough for this...this...grrrr. Toss that other guy in there, too, while the trapdoor is open.

Alright. So, legal people. Why give him this deal? Not enough solid evidence? Spare the victims public exposure? Two charges and done without the hassle of a full trial? What’s the tinking on this?

Not having to go through the trial, for varous reasons (including sparing the victims exposure) is probably one major deal, though it seems too light even for that, at least to me. He could be willing to testify against other people as well. I guess we’ll see about that later. It doesn’t seem like Jared was the leader of this child porn ring so that may be the top target they want to go after.

I agree with Fleet Admiral Josh & would further suggest that because the minors involved were prostitutes, it may (sadly & sickeningly) have made a jury less sympathetic. I had to sit through a sentancing hearing where the arguement for leniency included the notion that because the victim wasn’t a virgin at the time, the rape was less traumatic than if she had been.
